It was wear your Orange to
school Wednesday and we had a lot of orange going on in our classroom. We had fun picking out where the orange was
at on our friends. If you come again
this week to school don’t forget to wear your orange. We started our day with an Earthquake Drill,
which had us take a walk to the soccer fields once we practiced getting under
our tables. We did really well with
this. WE are working a lot on
transitions in this classroom and we did really well with the unexpected
today!
Jesus Time: Today we continued our story about Noah and this is
what we learned today….
Genesis 8:18-22, 9:1-17, The Rainbow
When everyone was out of the boat, Noah built an altar. He
thanked God for keeping them safe. Then something wonderful happened! God put a
beautiful rainbow in the sky and made Noah a promise. "I will never flood
the whole earth like that again," God said. When God makes a promise, He
keeps it.
We had the opportunity during free choice play to play with some
Noah’s ark and all the animals he put inside them.
Number: Number three is what we are studying this month. We practiced making the number three with our
fingers this is good practice for our finger and hand muscles. We practiced counting to three and looking at
what the number three looks like.
During center time we stamped 3 pumpkins in a pumpkin patch for
our number book that we are making through out the year.
Shape: We are learning about a circle this month. We learned that there is no beginning and end
to a circle and that we can think of many things that look like a circle.
During Center time we used an orange bingo dauber to trace the
outline of a circle. As we used the
bingo dauber we practiced saying a circle has no beginning or no ending it just
keeps going around and around. Using
Bingo daubers allows us tor work on our spatial awareness as well as our
pre-writing skills.
Letter: We began working on the letter “F” this week. We talked about words that began with the
letter “F” like flower, fabulous, fantastic, food, frog, fancy, fish, fun and
funny.
Color: Orange is our
color of the month. So we spent time
during morning meeting identifying different things that were orange.
We had fun painting a picture of a jack o’lantern and talking
about if we had been to the pumpkin patch yet.
We also had fun using an orange stamp pad to make a pumpkin patch using
our fingers.
Music and Movement: We sang our ABC’s, Twinkle Twinkle Little
Star and Jesus Loves Me. We sang the
Wheels on the Bus, Bringing home a Baby Bumblebee and clapping our hands! We practiced the Five Little Pumpkins Finger
Play we have been learning all month.
Outside Time: It was gorgeous outside today so we got lots
of outside time in! Playing with friends
from the other PDO Classes and playing with the bikes, trucks and digging in
the rock pit.
Patterning: We continued
working on our pumpkin leaf pattern during morning meeting.
Cutting: Today we
practiced cutting out different pictures associated with Halloween and talked
about what we saw after we cut out the pictures we glued them on a piece of
Orange Paper.
Enjoy the pictures from our day!
Today we all decided to paint at the same time so that is what we did. Sometimes in PDO you just had to go with the flow and follow the students lead. We had a really great time painting a Jack O'Lantern orange. Shortly after this we made our way outside for the Earthquake Drill. I didn't have the opportunity to take many pictures this morning during Free Choice Time.
Mrs. Linneman brought out some big tubes that the boys had fun rolling the cars through.
Claire had fun playing with play dough and making different Halloween Shapes.
MORNING MEETING
We are starting to get the hang of sitting at circle time.
Mr. Weather Frog is ready for a crisp fall day!
Before we talked about Noah today, a few of my friends noticed that a rainbow had been added to our storyboard.
We read this book about the Circus we practiced counting to 10 and exploring the different animals we might see at the Circus
Transition Time
We had to wait for our name to be called and then we got to put our leaf on the tree. We are getting better at waiting our turn and identifying the color of our leaf.
Independent Reading
We did things a little different today after snack we looked at books on our own for a bit.
We read this story about what different children may be when they trick or treat. We talked about that when we go trick or treating and after we get our candy that we need to say thank you.
After we read our story we talked about what we were going to be for Halloween. Some of my friends were not sure or didn't know what they were going to be.
Outside Time
Center Time
Jack O'Lanterns
Stamping Three Pumpkins!
USING BINGO DAUBERS
MAKING A PUMPKIN PATCH
CUTTING WITH SCISSORS & GLUING
Music and Movement
At the end of our Music and Movement time after we read a book we had to listen for our name and find our leaf on the tree and then bring it to Mrs. Horn. When we brought it to Mrs. Horn we had to tell her what color our leaf was. This is a great way for us to start recognizing our name and the letter it beginnings with. When I call their name I say their name and then the letter it starts with and what it sounds like. It also allows us to work on our colors too.
We read this book about what a Jack O 'Lantern might see on Halloween night.
Our Wednesdays are getting better remember this is a great program to help your child get ready for Preschool. We work on lots of life skills and help them ease into the school setting. We work every week on certain aspects of a preschool classroom to help our friends make a smooth transition to preschool.
