Happy Last Day of April

Happy Thursday

It is hard to believe by this time next month we will be done with school and summer break will be underway!  We have had an awesome month of April learning and exploring and I am excited to spend the month of May soaking up the love from your precious little ones and sneaking a few snuggles in here and there and sharing some laughs and some of the best dance parties I have ever attended!   We spent today doing a final review of the color yellow, the number 9, the shape of a rectangle, reveiwing the Easter Story and learning about butterflies, flowers and the season of Spring!  We were blessed with a beautiful Spring day so we did soak up some sunshine as we played outside with our friends and working on a special Mother's Day gift that will becoming home next week!  Enjoy viewing our pictures in collage form and reading about what we did today.

Matching Colors with Pom-Poms to decorate caterpillars and butterflies

Sorting Bears

Block Play
We have enjoyed building with the wood blocks the past two weeks and I have seen some really neat creations and the look on their faces when they complete a creation is priceless.  Some of our friends are having a hard time not knocking down our creations so we have been doing a lot of talking about how we need to be respectful of our friends space and that it hurts our feelings when we knock down our friends creations.

MAKING A FLOWER
Today we made a flower out of a paper plate and craft stick.
We used a green bingo dauber to make our craft stick green, we then cut small slits in our paper plate to make the petals to work on our scissor skills, we then decorated our flower using red paint.  We made some great looking flowers that are going to be displayed in our classroom

Imaginative Play
We have enjoyed playing with some new and different toys in our classroom this week.  We took out our kitchen set and replaced it with a small house and a small grill.  I have seen so many friends playing and sharing with each other.

Painting a Cross
Today we painted with q-tips to decorate a cross. We have spent the month of April learning about the shape of a Rectangle and how a cross can be made out of two rectangles.  Using the q-tips gave us a way to work on our fine motor skills and a different way for us to work with paint.

Making a Sun and some raindrops
We finger painted with yellow and blue paint today to make a sun and some rain to add to our Spring scenes in the classroom.  I have really enjoyed working with the students to create a classroom that has been totally done by them and inspired by them.

BUTTERFLY BOOKS
We spent this past month learning about the life cycle of a butterfly.  We had fun learning a cute little song to remember the life cycle of a butterfly to the tune of Mary Had a Little Lamb.  Today we made a book to go along with the song we have been learning.  Ask your child if they can "read" (or sing) about the life cycle of a butterfly.

Sensory Table Fun
Currently our Sensory Table has fake flowers and palm branches in it.  We had a few friends today who were waving Palm Branches saying Hosanna, Hosanna in the Highest!  We had friends telling me the Jesus story of Jesus and Palm Branches.  Lots of learning and knowledge being done in the classroom all the time!

BOYS AND THEIR TOYS!
So this was far one of the many highlights of my day.  We had a toy grill brought into the classroom.  So it has been a popular item to play with this week.  We have had everything from steak to trains be grilled and flipped with the spatula on the grill.  We have been wined and dined all week with some Delicious meals!  As we were going about our day today there was a moment where every child was interacting with another friend and there was this hum in the classroom of children playing and learning and I look over and find the boys of the classroom around the grill kicking back talking and grilling.  It is amazing to realize how much real life is imitated in our classroom on a daily basis and today was a great example of that.  This will be one of these moments in my career as a teacher that will be a wonderful memory of boys and their toys, I am not sure what was being talked about but they were in there world and laughing and giggling and enjoying just being boys doing boys things like grilling!

Morning Meeting
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these little people and they have brought many smiles and lots of joy to our lives this year!

Today we told the Very Hungry Caterpillar Story in flannel board story form, as well as read another book by Eric Carle called The Tiny Seed to help us wrap up our study of flowers and butterflies.  We also sang our butterfly song to help us with the life cycle of a Caterpillar.

Transition
Today was the last day for our Easter Eggs to be put in the Easter Basket.  All my friends came home today in their folder with their Easter Egg and their cubby name tag.  New transition pieces and name tags will be up for our last month together.

After Snack Time
We reviewed the Easter Story and sang some Jesus songs, Jesus Loves the Little Children,
The B-I-B-L-E, Jesus Loves Me, Zacchues, Row Row Your Boat and we practiced praying.  We then headed outside to enjoy this beautiful weather.

Working on the first letter of a our name using a bingo dauber

NUMBER 9
Today we were given the number 9 with nine rectangles of with different colors.  Mrs. Wegner would ask the children to find a color and then they placed a sticker on that color.  We were able to work on following directions, identification of colors and counting to the number nine

Writing our Name
We have been working on writing our name for the past month and half.  A small name portfolio will becoming home the last week of school.  I have seen some great progress in each student learning the letter in their names.

Caterpillar Patterns
Today we used purple and yellow bingo daubers to make a caterpillars body making a pattern.  The body was made up of nine circles and numbered 1-9 we had to match the color to the correct bingo dauber.  We were working on our counting skills, matching skills, color recognition and patterning

DANCE PARTY
We had some serious fun just dancing and letting our hair down and having fun.  Lots of jumping, clapping, laughing going on during our dance parties and all my friends danced today and saw lots of smiles!  No particular songs just a combination of songs that are super upbeat and fun to listen to.  When we were done with our dance party we sat down took a breather and listened to the story by Eric Carle called Brown Bear Brown Bear what do you See.

Watching the Very Hungry Caterpillar

Transition
We took down our Easter eggs and then walked to wash our hands for lunch!

Lunch Time
Our one table had our paintings for the sun and rain on it so two of our friends had to dine at a smaller table.  This group pretty much roles with whatever is going on and no one even questioned with tow of our friends were eating a different table.

Could not have been more blessed to have spent my Thursday with these lovely little people have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seen you all next week when we will enter the world of DINOSAURS!

Happy Wednesday!

HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

We had a few friends not with us today and we pray that they feel better and are able to join us back in the classroom next week.  Today we finished up our studies on the number 9, the color yellow, the shape of rectangle, reviewing the Easter Story and wrapping our time learning about flower, butterflies and the season of Spring.  We enjoyed playing with a few new additions to our classroom and doing some new music and movement songs.  We are really working hard on Wednesday with cleaning up our toys when it is clean up time.  Many of my friends will be heading to preschool in the fall and will be expected to do their part with cleaning up the classroom when it is clean up time.  This is something we have worked on all year long and will continue to work on till the end of the school year.

Reminder that next Wednesday is dress like your favorite Sports Character to help us celebrate National Lutherans Schools Week.  Please be sure and check your child's folder for important papers this week coming home.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact me at hhorn@zionharvester.org.
