Good Bye February:(

Thursday, February 25, 2016

Where did the month of February go?!?  It just seems like yesterday we were coming back from Christmas break and now we are getting ready to head into the month of MARCH!  We have had a great month of February in our classroom.  We spent the month learning about the number 7, learning about the color pink and the shape of a heart.  We have continued along our alphabet journey which has brought us to the letter W this week and we continued to add on to the Christmas Story and learn about Jesus as a little boy, to a young man to an adult and we will continue that journey next month as he prepares to die on the cross for our sins. We had fun playing different matching games this month, building with big blocks and small blocks.  Stringing noodles and big buttons, figuring out puzzles and connecting pieces to make a ladder, train tracks and whatever else our imagination wanted for us.  Our imaginations have exploded this month and we are playing more as a group than in parallel play and it has been an amazing month to see these dear little friends of mine grown and learn!   We learned about cupcakes, hearts, Valentines’ Day and loving one another and the people around us.  March will bring us to learn about preparing for spring, St. Patrick’s Day and Easter.   We will learn about a new number, shape, color and finish up the Alphabet during the month of March.  Our Jesus time will be spent learning what happens as Jesus prepares to die on the Cross.

Free Choice/ Centers
We enjoyed listening to some classical music today and playing with our friends.

Alphabet Books
We are working on the letter "W" this week.  See if you can help your child hear the "w" sound and what words start with the letter W!   We have a few more letters to do and our alphabet books will be complete!

Valentine Vocabulary
Today we work on our words and colors as we glued different pictures down on a piece of paper.  We had fun laughing at some of the silly pictures we had glued down on our paper.  These will be in your child's portfolio and has we worked on this center I recorded on their paper what they said.

WE ARE LEARNING THROUGH PLAY!
Play builds the foundation that children need for their cognitive development, self-control, ability to pay attention, problem-solve, and think critically.

Patterning
This week we are doing a pattern of cupcake and hearts like our morning meeting patterning that we have been doing all month.  My friends are sitting down with me and I am handing them a glue stick and a container with the cupcakes and a container with the hearts and allowing them to do this activity on their own.  We are doing really well with all of our patterning work.

Morning Meeting
Happy Thursday!
(these lovely people knew what day of the week it was before I could say it!)

We counted the red, orange, yellow and blue squares and discovered they all the same number of squares.

Transition
We are working on hearing the first letter of our names when our names are called and working on recognizing our name on our heart.  We will really start focusing on our name when we finish the alphabet and we start working on a name book

We read a favorite of mine and all got a Kissing Hand Sticker at the end for sitting so well and listening to the story

Winnie the Pooh starts with W!

Rain clouds for a very cloudy dreary day at Zion.

Goodbye number 7, color pink and the shape of a heart

Good-bye cupcake and hearts

What we found in the room that was pink!

Snack Time

Jesus Time
Jesus Called the Disciples
We learned about how Jesus asked the Disciples to follow him and how important it is for us to listen and hear God's Word

Music and Movement
We are loving the videos we can sing and dance too.

Circle Time
Today was our last day for a flannel board story about Six Little Valentines

Painting a Heart
We used the water colors today to paint a blank heart.  We were able to use our creativity to makes some beautiful hearts that are now displayed on our wall in our classroom.  Be sure and check it out when you stop in the classroom.  We have made a wide variety of hearts this month and we have decorated them so beautifully!

Cutting with Scissors
Today we were given six different valentine pictures that we needed to cut in half and then glue on a piece of paper.  We were able to work on our cutting skills as well as work on our verbal skills and problem solving skills.  These are hanging in the hallway be sure and check out how well we are doing with our scissor skills.

Play
This is a very busy group of friends they move about the classroom and keep themselves busy and occupied doing a vairety of activities.

FUTURE DOCTORS?

Tissue Paper Hearts
Today we had to glue tissue paper onto a blank heart.  This was a little tricky because the tissue paper was small and thin and could be hard to grasp from time to time.  Some friends did not like getting glue on their fingers and this is something that we worked through and we had some more beautiful hearts to had to our wall of hearts!

KEEPING BUSY!

Painting a Cupcake
Today to help us with the color pink we painted with shaving cream, glue and pink paint to make another delicious pink cupcake.  It was a much thicker paint so it took a little more work to paint our cupcakes today.

Ending Circle
We read one final book for the day and took our hearts off of our board one last time in February.  Your child's heart came home today in their backpack.

We closed out the month of February on great note and are excited to see what March brings us.  Have a great weekend and I look forward to seeing everyone next week!
