It is hard to believe in a month many of my little
friends will have walked out of my classroom and will move onto preschool in
the fall. I have only one month left to
soak in all the fun, learning, exploring, and playing with my little friends
and we will make the most out of our last month together. We were graced with yet another beautiful day
and so we took full advantage of it and played outside for extended periods of
time today.
We are continuing our study of the farm and were
busy today painting a barn and the grass for our barn to be in as well as putting
9 stickers on a cow to add to our farm scene. Be sure and check out all the
animals on our Farm. We will spend next
week wrapping up our Farm theme and will begin to introduce our final theme of
the year…SUPER HEROS! Next week we will
start learning about the number 10, review the colors we have learned this year
and learn about the shape of a diamond.
We also hope to spend lots of time outside as well doing lots of fun and
different activities!
WEEK OF THE
YOUNG CHILD IS NEXT WEEK!
Students in
PDO-2nd grade will celebrate Week of
the Young Child on May 4th-8th. During
this week, we celebrate the blessing of young children,
especially all of the young children here at Zion! As part of
the celebration, there will be
optional dress-up days this week.
The themes are listed below:
Monday:
Sports Shirt Day-wear a sports shirt of their favorite team
Tuesday:
Favorite Color Day
Wednesday:
Spirit Day - Wear red or white or Zion wear
Thursday:
Stripes Day
Friday:
Mismatched Socks Day
Please
remember that these dress-up days are optional! If your
child chooses not to participate, he/she should be in Zion standardized dress
(K-2nd grade). If your child participates, he/she doesn't have to be in
standardized dress. It should be a fun week!
Also next week is National Children’s Book week. I am asking children to bring in their
favorite book. Please make sure your
child’s name is on the inside cover and it will be returned at the end of the
day. We will be doing lots of reading
but it should be a lot of fun to hear our friend’s entire favorite book!
We had a lot of fun learning about the farm and all
the different things there are on the farm and the type of animals on the
farm.
Enjoy reading about our day!
Jesus Time: Today we reviewed our
Bible story of Jesus meeting the disciples after he had rose from the
dead. We talked about how Jesus ate fish
and we should always trust Jesus and we should tell everyone we know that JESUS
IS ALIVE!!!
Number: During our morning meeting we reviewed to the
number 9! We counted 9 fingers and then
we counted 9 farm animals. Today we
counted six pigs, 2 horses and one cow. We talked about how they were different and
how they are the same. We are getting
great at finding the similarities and differences in our animals.
During our Center time
we practiced our counting skills, as we had to put 9 black stickers on our cow
to hang on our farm scene.
Shape: During Morning Meeting we reviewed to the
shape of an OVAL.
During our center time
we used the purple bingo dauber to trace the outline of an oval. We talked about how an Easter egg is the
shape of an oval.
Color: Purple is the
color we have learned about during the month of April. We spent morning meeting putting different
objects on our color board that were the color purple.
During our center time
used a purple bingo dauber to trace the outline of an oval.
Music and Movement: We
sang Jesus Loves Me, and our ABC’s. We also did Five Days Old and Shake your
Body Down
Outside Time: We did go outside today. We had such a good time playing this morning
early on the playground and it was so beautiful that we stayed out extra long
and then returned outside for another hours before we had our lunch for the
day. We had a lot of fun playing with
all our friends today.
Patterning: We continued our pattern today of pink and
purple bunnies.
Sensory and Science led
us to the sensory table where we discovered the Easter Grass was gone and it
was replaced with CORN! We had so much
fun scooping, digging, pouring and just feeling the corn. We had fun putting the tractors and animals in
the corn and exploring this new fun thing in our table! We also had the opportunity to watch nature
in action as the birds came and ate from our bird feeders through out the
day. It will be neat to see on Tuesday
how much food is left in the bird feeder.
We talked about how there was less in there today than on Tuesday and by
the time we got ready to head home today we decided there was even less than
when we looked at them on our first time outside today. It was great lesson on more and less as well
as talking about the birds.
Pre-Writing: we had the chance to color a picture of a
farm scene, which we did really well at.
Enjoy the pictures for
Today!
.Free Choice
We spent the first 30 minutes inside exploring the classroom and playing with our friends. We listened to Peanuts music this morning as a great way to help us get ready for a super fun fantastic day!
.Puzzles
.Sensory Table
We have loved having the corn in the sensory table. The corn will be in there for one more week and then will be replace with something else.
.Imaginative Play
I have really enjoyed watching all my little friends play this year. They have all grown so much in this area and their imaginations are really starting to come out. Imaginative Play is so cruical and important at this age and should be encouraged.
.Future Artist
This has been a great way all year for the students to practice their writing and drawing skills.
.Reading Books
Mrs. Wegener has been awesome about reading books with our little friends all second semester. There have been days she has read book after book after book to our friends. It is a great way for our friends to become interested in reading as well as hearing words and working on saying and speaking them. Reading is never a waste of time you should try reading with your child at least 20 minutes a day.
.Sorting
We have had a lot of fun sorting this month different colored bears into different colored cups. This activity has allowed students to color match and count the bears that they put into each cup. We have also worked on which one has more and which one has less. All exposure for our little friends.
.Painting A Farm Scene
Today we continued on our Farm Scene Project. It has numerous steps so today some of us still needed to paint our barns and we all painted the grass for our barn to go on. Next week this activity will be completed with us painting the sky and then gluing the barn and all the animals on our paper.
.Heading Outside
.Morning Meeting
Happy Thursday, the reasoning behind this picture every day is for us to practice hearing and saying the day of the week. Exposure is what we are all about in PDO, so when they move onto preschool they are familiar with words and phrases.
.Counting and talking about our 9 farm animals
.We read this book about the farm going to sleep and what each animal on the farm does to go to sleep. I read this book in a whisper today so they had to be extra quite and listen to hear my story. They did a great job listening.
Transition & Snack
.Snack Time
.As we ate our snack we were visited by our little feathered friends and they led to quite the discussion on them eating and observing how they eat. It was all very neat to watch and listen too
.Circle Time
we did some of our music and movement during our circle time, because I knew we would be heading back outside to play and wanted to be sure everyone got the opportunity to dance and sing.
.After we danced we sang our ABC"s and then read this child interactive book where we had to take time to feel each animal on the page.
.Where does this Animal Belong?
We then played a game where we were each given and animal. We had to show our animal to the classroom and named the animal and then place it in the Right category. We did a great job with this game.
.Counting Spots on a Cow
Before we headed back outside we did a quick center. We had to peel off black circle stickers and put them on our cows body. Not only were we working on our counting skills, but we were also working on our fine motors skills. We then had to follow directions and come see Mrs. Horn to glue our cows head on.
.
.Outside Part 2
.Center Time
we came inside washed hands and faces and then sat down as a group and colored a farm coloring sheet. We all worked really hard on our picture and they all turned out great!
.Puzzle Time
We start this puzzle at Free Choice Time this morning and after our coloring sheets we decided to work as a group to finish the Doc McStuffins puzzle we started. We did an awesome job!
.Music and Movement
We didn't have enough time to do more music and movement. So we read a farm animal counting book.
.We also had just enough time to do our bunny flannel board story one last time.
Transition & Lunch Time
.We had an awesome fun filled day in our classroom I hope you have enjoyed reading about our day as much fun as we had playing, learning and exploring today!
