WOW! What a
beautiful day God graced us with today.
We were so happy to see all of our friends today and to have everyone
back in our classroom. With such
beautiful weather we took full advantage of it and spent lots of extra time
soaking in the sunshine!
We are continuing our study of the farm and were
busy today painting a barn and the grass for our barn to be in as well as
painting a goat grey to add to our big farm scene on the wall. Be sure and check out all the animals on our
Farm. We will spend next week wrapping
up our Farm theme and will begin to introduce our final theme of the year…SUPER
HEROS! Next week we will start learning
about the number 10, review the colors we have learned this year and learn
about the shape of a diamond. We also
hope to spend lots of time outside as well doing lots of fun and different activities!
WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD IS NEXT WEEK!
Students in PDO-2nd grade will
celebrate Week of the Young Child on May
4th-8th. During this week, we celebrate the blessing
of young children, especially all of the young children
here at Zion! As part of the celebration, there will be
optional dress-up days this week.
The themes are listed below:
Monday: Sports Shirt Day-wear a sports shirt
of their favorite team
Tuesday: Favorite Color Day
Wednesday: Spirit Day - Wear red or white or
Zion wear
Thursday: Stripes Day
Friday: Mismatched Socks Day
Please remember that
these dress-up days are optional! If your child chooses
not to participate, he/she should be in Zion standardized dress (K-2nd
grade). If your child participates, he/she doesn't have to be in
standardized dress. It should be a fun week!
Also next week is
National Children’s Book week. I am
asking children to bring in their favorite book. Please make sure your child’s name is on the
inside cover and it will be returned at the end of the day. We will be doing lots of reading but it
should be a lot of fun to hear our friend’s entire favorite book!
We had a lot of fun learning about the farm and all
the different things there are on the farm and the type of animals on the
farm.
Enjoy reading about our day!
Jesus Time: Today we reviewed our
Bible story of Jesus meeting the disciples after he had rose from the
dead. We talked about how Jesus ate fish
and we should always trust Jesus and we should tell everyone we know that JESUS
IS ALIVE!!!
Number: During our morning meeting we reviewed to the
number 9! We counted 9 fingers and then
we counted 9 farm animals. Today we counted
three pigs, 3 sheep and 3 horses. We
talked about how they were different and how they are the same.
During our Center time
we practiced our counting and color matching skills. We used bingo dauber to
match the correct color to nine balloons on the inside of the number 9.
Shape: During Morning Meeting we reviewed to the
shape of an OVAL.
During our center time
we used the purple bingo dauber to trace the outline of an oval. We talked about how an Easter egg is the
shape of an oval.
Color: Purple is the
color we have learned about during the month of April. We spent morning meeting putting different
objects on our color board that were the color purple.
During our center time
used a purple bingo dauber to trace the outline of an oval.
Music and Movement: We
sang Jesus Loves Me, and our ABC’s. We also
sang The Wheels on the Bus, I Bringing Home a Baby Bumble Bee, Head Shoulders,
Knees and Toes and Five Little Ducks
Outside Time: We did go outside today. We had such a good time playing this morning
early on the playground and it was so beautiful that we stayed out extra long
and then returned outside for another 30 minutes before we had our lunch for
the day. We had a lot of fun playing
with all our friends today.
Patterning: We continued our pattern today of pink and
purple bunnies.
Sensory and Science led
us to the sensory table where we discovered the Easter Grass was gone and it
was replaced with CORN! We had so much
fun scooping, digging, pouring and just feeling the corn. We had fun putting the tractors and animals
in the corn and exploring this new fun thing in our table! We also had the opportunity to play and
created with purple play dough.
Pre-Writing: Today traced the outline of a barn to help us
work on holding a writing instrument and to focus on staying on the line. It
has been so neat to see how all of my little friends have improved over the
year and I can only imagine and wait to see how well they are doing when we
return in August.
Some of us finished up
patterns from last week if they were not at school. In the weeks to come we will be doing a
little bit of catching up on some things if a friend was missing the week we
worked on something important that we are going to be putting in our portfolios
that will becoming home at the end of the school year.
Enjoy the pictures for
Today!
Playdough is a great way for us to work on building our hand muscles and strengthing our finger muscles. It is also a great opportunity to be creative and build interesting things.
.Imaginative Play
.Sorting
We have spent the month sorting different bears into the right colored cup. This was a great way for us to work on our counting and sorting skills as well as our color identification skills.
.Sensory Table
We have really enjoyed the corn in the sensory table this month. The sensory table is open during free choice time and sometimes center time. My friends have the opportunity to work on their scooping and pouring skills as well as using their imaginative play while playing in the table.
.Painting a Big Red Barn
This week we began a three step process as we are going to build our own farm scene the first step was to paint the barn for our farm red.
.Marker Fun!
We have really enjoyed using the dry erase board this year and it has been so neat to watch my friends write and draw on the board it has been an experiment and I am very happy with the results. Unfortunately, we love it so much that our marker supply is almost depleted. if you have any old washable markers that you would like to get rid of we would gladly take them off your hands.
.More Imaginative Play
.Building and Problem Solving
We worked on these two tasks today as we worked on building towers with blocks and doing various farm puzzles.
