Wednesday October 1,2014

Wednesday, October 01 2014

Wednesday’s in Room C is a day where many of my friends only come one day a week.  So we are still working on adjusting to school, friends, rules, teachers, routines and schedules.  We will be scaling back a little of what we all do until more of my friends become acclimated to the school environment.  This is OK this program is designed for your child to become comfortable in a school setting, taking direction from someone else other than mom, dad, grandma and grandpa.  It is best to know that while your child is in our care that they are being loved and we are there to help them make the transitions, I know first hand as a parent how hard it can be to leave your child when they are crying and upset.  But know it is okay and we are here to help make that transition easier and as time goes by you will see a change in your child.  Please do not hesitate to talk to me about how your child is doing or what tips you need into drop off in the morning to how to help them get through the day.

Jesus Time: Today we began learning about Noah and this is what we learned today….

Genesis 6
Many years later there were lots of people on the Earth, but most of them were bad.  One man-Noah-was good.  He obeyed God.  “I want you to build a boat, God told Noah.  Noah started right away.  People laughed at Noah because they lived in a desert and there was no water for the boat.  Noah just went on building the boat.

We had the opportunity during free choice play to play with some Noah’s ark and all the animals he put inside them.

Number:  We continued our study of the number 2.  We practiced holding up two fingers.  We then waved our two fingers in the air.  Then we practiced counting 1-2, clapping our hands two times, stomping our feet two times, jumping up and down two times, rubbing our tummies two times and turning around two times and waving our hands two times.

Shape:  We continued studying about the shape of an Octagon. We reviewed today that an octagon has 8 sides and practiced counting the eight sides. We talked about how an Octagon shape looks like a stop sign and when we see a stop sign we need to STOP!!!

Letter: We are studying about the letter “E” this week. We learned about different words that begin with the letter E, such as Elephant, every, our Friend Evan’s names starts with E, excited, exactly, egg and emotion.

Our center activity allowed us to color a picture of an Elephant for the letter E and that should be coming home in our red folders today.

Color:  RED is the color we are learning about the month of September.  We started our morning meeting with identifying different objects that are red on our color board.  We had fun making a leaf with red paint in a Ziploc bag they are really pretty be sure to check them out in our classroom.

We also sponge painted different colored apples on a big piece of paper for an apple tree that will be hung up in our classroom.

Music and Movement: Singing our ABC’s, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Jesus Loves me.  We also did the Silly Dance Contest.

Outside Time:  Another beautiful day created by our Awesome God so we took time to play outside with our friends from the other PDO classes.  We spent extra time outside today to help some of our friends become more comfortable at school and to enjoy this weather!   We will go outside a lot in the class so please talk with your child about what they like to play with outside on our playground and encourage them to have fun when we are outdoors.

Patterning:  As we continue to work on A-B patterning we did a pattern today sponge painting red and yellow apples on a piece of paper.  I started the pattern with a red apple and the students completed the pattern from there.  Be sure to check them out in the hallway.

Enjoy the pictures from our day!

Free Choice Play
Today was done mostly outside due to the beautiful weather.  We had fun playing on the playground for a really long time, unfortunately I forgot to bring the IPOD outside to take pictures of all my friends enjoying the beautiful Fall weather.

Morning Meeting
Today we spent reviewing our shape, color, number and pattern for the month of September.  We also heard of the story of Noah.

A new month and we started over with a red square on with a number 1 on the square for Wednesday.

Goodbye Number 2 and the shape of an Octagon that tells us to stop!

Can not wait to see what the orange board has in store for us next week!

Mr. Weather Frog had his shorts and sunglasses on today with a few falling leaves to help us remember that Fall is in the air!

Noah was told to build an ark and that is what he did!

We practiced counting to 10 with 10 black dots that made all types of different pictures.

TRANSITION TIME & OUTSIDE TIME
We practiced listening and waiting for our friends as our names were called to put our apple in the apple basket.  We then headed outside to enjoy more of this beautiful weather that we have been graced with.

Doing the Silly Dance Contest!

We learned about different things that we might see the Fall and why Baby loves the season Fall.

Center Time
We spent time today making a big Apple Tree  by each getting to stamp 2 red apples, 2 green apples and 2 yellow apples.  Be sure to check it out in our classroom next week.

We painted a little different today with Red Paint.  We had a leaf template that we put into a big Ziploc bag with red paint, we then sealed up the Ziploc bag and used our fingers to smash and move the paint around the leaf.  We made some really pretty red leaves today.

We did an apple pattern using the same apple sponges we used for our apple tree.  Today we did red and yellow apples.

Bingo Daubers were used today to decorate a pretty fall tree with apples on it.  Bingo Daubers are great for my friends to work on their pre-writing skills as well as working on working in a small space.

The Letter "E" stands for Elephant we did a coloring page of an Elephant today to help us with our pre-writing skills.

We made an apple today that looks like it has been eaten.  Each child in the class will make one of these.  We worked on painting in a small area, painting two green leaves, and using a black marker to make the seeds

Have a great evening!
