It was wear your Orange to
school Thursday and we had a lot of orange going on in our classroom. We had fun picking out where the orange was
at on our friends. I cannot say enough good things about this group on Thursday
they are all doing really well with following directions, participating in
circle time, completing centers, sharing and playing with each other.
Jesus Time: Today we continued our story about Noah and this is
what we learned today….
Genesis 8:18-22, 9:1-17, The Rainbow
When everyone was out of the boat, Noah built an altar. He
thanked God for keeping them safe. Then something wonderful happened! God put a
beautiful rainbow in the sky and made Noah a promise. "I will never flood
the whole earth like that again," God said. When God makes a promise, He
keeps it.
We had the opportunity during free choice play to play with some
Noah’s ark and all the animals he put inside them.
Number: Number three is what we are studying this month. We practiced making the number three with our
fingers this is good practice for our finger and hand muscles. We practiced counting to three and looking at
what the number three looks like.
During center time we stamped 3 different kinds of leaves in
three different colors. As we stamped
our leaves we practiced counting to three.
We also used an orange bingo dauber to find the number 1 number 2 and
number 3 on a big number 3. This helped
us review what the number 1 and 2 looked like and continue identifying the
number 3.
Shape: We are learning about a circle this month. We learned that there is no beginning and end
to a circle and that we can think of many things that look like a circle.
Letter: We began working on the letter “F” this week. We talked about words that began with the
letter “F” like flower, fabulous, fantastic, food, frog, fancy, fish, fun, and
family!
During center time we colored a picture of a Fox that should of
come home in your child’s red folder.
Color: Orange is our
color of the month. So we spent time
during morning meeting identifying different things that were orange.
We had fun painting a pumpkin and making an orange jack o’lantern.
Music and Movement: We sang our ABC’s, Twinkle Twinkle Little
Star and Jesus Loves Me. We sang the
Bringing home a Baby Bumblebee and clapping our hands. We also did the finger exercise to Beethoven
5th Symphony. We Shook our
Bodies Down and had fun doing the silly Dance Contest! We practiced the Five Little Pumpkins Finger
Play we have been learning all month.
Outside Time: It was gorgeous outside today so we got lots
of outside time in! Playing with friends
from the other PDO Classes and playing with the bikes, trucks and digging in
the rock pit.
Patterning: We continued
working on our pumpkin leaf pattern during morning meeting.
During Center Time we practiced making a pattern of a Scarecrow
and leaf. The pattern was started with a
Scarecrow and the students completed the pattern. We also practiced saying the word
Scarecrow.
Cutting: Today some of my
friends practiced cutting out different pictures associated with Halloween and
talked about what we saw after we cut out the pictures we glued them on a piece
of Orange Paper. My other friends who
have already completed this project practiced cutting orange paper to glue on a
leaf to help complete our tree in our classroom.
Enjoy the pictures from our day!
Free Choice Play
Today we listened to a variety of classical music during our free choice time. During this time we tried out some new and different activities and had fun exploring them!
Patterning Cards
We had to find the correct fall item and place them on top of the pictures and then complete the patterns.
Friends working together
New Puzzles
Some of the puzzles today were a little more challenging than the ones we have been working on. Puzzles are a great way to work on problem solving skills, spatial awareness and pre-math skills.
Morning Meeting
We are doing great at sitting at Circle Time
Singing Jesus Loves Me…We are really doing great at this song. Still working on how to upload videos so you all can see and hear them sing.
When we do our calendar during morning meeting, we talk about the month it is, the day of the week and what the date is. When we do the date we talk about the numbers are and what color the square is. We then count how many squares we have of the particular color.
Mr. Weather Frog is ready for another crisp fall day. We talk about what season is and what happens during the season of Fall.
Some of my friends noticed the Rainbow was added to our Bible Story of Noah.
When we do our pattern for the month each child is asked what will come next in the pattern. We then count how many there are. Patterning is so important in early childhood and my friends are amazing me with how well they are doing with patterning.
At the end of our Morning Meeting we read a story that either pertains to counting, or the theme we are working on. Since we have been stamping scarecrows and working on saying the word, we read this book about what happen to the Scarecrows Hat. It was a longer story than I would usually read and they did great and helped me with telling me the different sounds and animals made in the story.
Transition Time
As we get ready for snack time we pray and then each child's name is called and they find a place for their leaf on our tree. As they went to find a spot they told me what color their leaf was. This activity allows us to become familiar with our name, identify colors and to listen and follow directions. It also helps us work on self regulation. After we put our leaves on the tree we find a Mickey Mouse to stand on and wait to walk and wash our hands.
Circle Time
After snack we sing a few songs and practice sing our ABC'S.
We read this book about some Halloween Cats watching children go Trick or Treating. After we read the book we talked about when we go Trick or Treating that we should say please and thank you to those who give us candy. We also charted what we are going to be for Halloween.
We also spend time practicing our letter sounds of the alphabet.
We talked about the letter of the week.
Our chart of what we are going to be for Halloween. Some of my friends were not sure of what they were being or didn't want to tell us.
Outside Time
They were really on the go today so it was a little difficult to get pics of them!
Center Time
This is the time of day that we work on all the things that we talk about during our Morning Meeting. Some centers we do as a whole group other centers the children are called over one at a time. As we work on centers my friends are able to come in and play and explore the classroom. As we do center time we listen to a different selection of music. Today we listened to the soundtrack to Happy Feet.
Painting An Orange Pumpkin
Making A Jack O'Lantern
Today we had to glue on two black triangles for eyes, one triangle for a nose and draw a mouth on our jack o'lantern with a black marker. We had to work our hand muscles to squeeze the glue to put our triangles on our paper. We used our pre-writing skills to draw on the mouth and we then used our body awareness as we decided where to put the eyes, nose and mouth at.
Patterning
Leaf Decorating
We decorated some leaves for our tree. We used gold glitter to shake onto a leaf template or we practiced cutting orange paper to glue onto a leaf template. We talked about how in the season of fall the leaves turn different colors and fall to the ground.
Stamping 3 Leaves and Identifying 1-2-3
Cutting with Scissors
Coloring the LETTER F
Exploring The Classroom
Cooking up something delicious in the housekeeping area
Making a beautiful picture on the wipe off board
Having fun working on the chalkboard
Doing a little light reading
Helping the animals get into the Ark 2 by 2
More drawing taking place on the wipe off board
Chalkboard drawings are popular in the classroom
Sensory Table Fun all different types of things that we see during the season of fall. The sensory table allows us to feel, touch, smell, see what Fall is like first hand.
Music and Movement
So in true Mrs. Horn fashion my ipod quit working during music and movement for the most part. I did get them all standing in line to wash hands for Lunch! Look at all that ORANGE and how well they are standing in line!
We read this book about how the leaves change colors in the fall and what pretty colors we get to see in the fall.
As you can see we had a pretty busy and fun day in PDO!! Have a wonderful weekend and look forward to seeing you all next week!
