TUESDAYS ORANGE DAY!

Tuesday, October 21, 2014

It was wear your Orange to school Tuesday and we had a lot of orange going on in our classroom.  We had fun picking out where the orange was at on our friends.  If you come again this week to school don’t forget to wear your orange!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and were able to get outdoors and enjoy the weather!  We did a lot of fall and Halloween type things today.

Jesus Time: Today we continued our story about Noah and this is what we learned today….

Genesis 8:18-22, 9:1-17, The Rainbow
When everyone was out of the boat, Noah built an altar. He thanked God for keeping them safe. Then something wonderful happened! God put a beautiful rainbow in the sky and made Noah a promise. "I will never flood the whole earth like that again," God said. When God makes a promise, He keeps it.

We had the opportunity during free choice play to play with some Noah’s ark and all the animals he put inside them.

During center time we had fun picking out animals and Noah to glue onto our Ark that we were given.  We talked about the sounds the animal’s make and how they got onto the ark.

Number:  Number three is what we are studying this month.  We practiced making the number three with our fingers this is good practice for our finger and hand muscles.  We practiced counting to three and looking at what the number three looks like.

During center time we practiced tracing the number 3 with an orange marker.  This not only helped us become familiar with the outline of a number 3 but it also allowed us to work on our pre-writing skills.  We also stamped 3 pumpkins in a pumpkin patch for our number book that we are making through out the year.

Shape:  We are learning about a circle this month.  We learned that there is no beginning and end to a circle and that we can think of many things that look like a circle.

During Center time we used an orange bingo dauber to trace the outline of a circle.  As we used the bingo dauber we practiced saying a circle has no beginning or no ending it just keeps going around and around.  Using Bingo daubers allows us tor work on our spatial awareness as well as our pre-writing skills.

Letter: We began working on the letter “F” this week.  We talked about words that began with the letter “F” like flower, fabulous, fantastic, food, frog, fancy, fish, fun and funny.

During center time we colored a picture of a Frog and it should of come home in your child’s red folder.

Color:  Orange is our color of the month.  So we spent time during morning meeting identifying different things that were orange.

We had fun painting a picture of Mickey Mouse who was in the shape of 3 pumpkins.

Music and Movement: We sang our ABC’s, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Jesus Loves Me.  We had fun doing the Silly Dance Contest, clapping our hands and brushing our teeth!  We practiced the Five Little Pumpkins Finger Play we have been learning all month.

Outside Time:  It was gorgeous outside today so we got lots of outside time in!  Playing with friends from the other PDO Classes and playing with the bikes, trucks and digging in the rock pit.

Patterning:  We continued working on our pumpkin leaf pattern during morning meeting.

During center time we stamped pumpkin and scarecrow to make a pattern with an orange stamp pad.  I would help start the pattern and the students would finish the patterns.  We also practiced saying the word scarecrow that can be a pretty hard word to say.

Enjoy the pictures from our day!

Free Choice play
Today are music selection was from How To Train a Dragon 1 and 2.  This soundtrack has some really pretty music and it is amazing how much the children enjoyed listening to this soundtrack!

We love to play with Play Dough!  It feels so squishy and good in our hands!

Checking out the new things in our sensory table.  Currently, we have pine cones, leaves and acorns.

The sensory table allows us to experience and learn about the world around us.

This class really enjoys looking at books, I always can be guaranteed to have one or two friends looking at books in the reading area! I love to see my friends looking at books.

Morning Meeting
We are doing great at sitting and listening at Morning Meeting!

Mr. Weather Frog is ready for some beautiful Fall weather.

We added a rainbow to our story of Noah's Ark

We are doing a great job with our Pumpkin Leaf pattern during morning meeting

Our transition activity to snack we have to put a leaf on our tree when our name is called.

We counted some animals as we read this fun book today.  We made the different noises that these silly animals make.  We talked about how many of the animals in this book were on the ark with Noah.

Circle Time
We had fun doing the Silly Dance Contest today!

We read this book about what different children dress up as on Halloween

Today we listened to a flannel board story that Mrs. Horn told us as she told the story we added pieces to the board.

When we got ready to go outside we told Mrs. Horn what we were going to be for Halloween, I think we are going to have some really neat trick or treaters this year!
