Rain Rain Go Away

RAIN, RAIN GO AWAY!
Even though it was a very gloomy, rainy and cold outside, it was sunny, happy and warm in our classroom today.  Our class was filled with all the little friends that we have gotten to know over the last one or two years and it is hard to believe that we have only one more class left with our Tuesday friends.  We were busy today with learning more about dinosaurs, counting to the number 10, reviewing the colors of the rainbow and learning about the shape of diamond.  We had fun reading stories, singing and dancing and playing with our friends.

Free Choice & Centers
We have spent all year listening to wide variety of music in our classroom this year and today was no different.  We listened to some classical music which set for a very mellow calm classroom for us today.

PUZZLES
We enjoyed doing a variety of puzzles this morning.  Puzzles have been available for our friends to do all year long.  Puzzles are a great way for us to work on fine motor skills, problem solving skills, and math skills.  Puzzles are also a great quiet activity that can be done at home or when your little one needs to settle and have some calm time.

READING STORIES
Mrs. Wegener we just love her so much and today she was busy talking with our friends and reading a variety of stories to our friends.  Books also have been available to our friends as well and we have enjoyed doing independent reading and listening to a variety of books this year.
Reading aloud 20 minutes a day with your child. From birth to age 5, this enjoyable activity provides 600 hours of essential pre-literacy experience before entering school. Once in school, it’s essential to continue the read-aloud habit throughout the elementary school years.

PLAYING WITH OUR FRIENDS
We have really made some wonderful friends this year.  Friendships have blossomed this year some it took a little longer than others, and it is so exciting to see some of our friends coming out of their shells. Learning how to play with each other has been a main focus on in our classroom this year.

BINGO DAUBER DIAMONDS
Today some of my friends worked on learning the shape of a diamond, by using a bingo dauber to make the outline of a diamond.

DRAWING
Today we finished our last drawing to go in our portfolios that will becoming home next week on your child's last day of school.

SENSORY TABLE
All year our sensory table has been filled with all different things to experience and play with .  The last few weeks we have had fake flower in our table that we have been enjoying and studying.

BODY PARTS
Today for our final pre-reading assessment we labeled the different parts of our bodies.  All year long we have been working on learning the parts of our body.  Today we labeled our ears, hands, heart feet, mouth and eyes.  Many of my friends were able to identify all the parts others needed a little help.  We have been hard at work this year and am super impressed by how much all my little friends have learned.  After we labeled the parts we had the opportunity to color our picture.  By coloring we were working on our pre-writing skills, how to hold a writing tool, self-control and color identification.

PAINTING
Today we used dinosaur cookie cutters to make a dinosaur collage on some red construction paper.  We used black paint and pearly white color.  We had fun painting all year long and have done it with a lot of different styles which has been a lot of fun.

COLOR REVIEW
Today we worked on reviewing the colors we had learned this year.  We colored dinosaurs the colors of green, purple, orange blue and red.  We worked on color identification all year long and many of our friends are able to identify their colors and are doing a great job coloring.

PATTERNING
Working on basic patterns this year has been something we explored.  Today we did different dinosaur patterns to add to our portfolios.  Patterning is something that is focused on in early childhood and we spent time during morning meeting each class time exploring a pattern for the month.  We also were able to work on fine motor skills as we had to pick up the picture of the pattern and glue them on our paper.  We also worked on our counting skills and verbal skills as we talked about what was next in our pattern.  Math skills come into play when we are patterning.

MORNING MEETING
HAPPY TUESDAY
(We start our morning meeting each day with a picture and saying the day of the week, it is so neat to hear them say the day of the week it is and impressive how many of them know the day of the week!)

LOVE THESE LITTLE PEOPLE SO MUCH!

Today is…..after we would sing our morning song we would say the day of the week, the month and what the date was.  We then would identify the numbers on our card and what type of picture was on the card.  This all just exposure into a concept of time and date.  We are hearing the days of the week, the months of the year, numbers recognition and counting skills.

Oh Mr. Weather Frog he was dressed for another soggy day in the STL.  Mr. Weather Frog has been our exploration into weather and science this year and our awareness of the world around us.

Theme Board:  Each month this year we have learned about a number, after identifying the number we would practice counting out loud and counting different things in the classroom.  We also studied a shape each month as well.

This month we are reviewing the colors of the rainbow, we have been learning a song about the colors in the rainbow this year and they are doing a great job singing it.

Our pattern for the month is purple dinosaur, yellow dinosaur or Stegasours and Pterycacl.

We read a book about one of our favorite characters in our classroom, PEPPA PIG is a celebrity in our classroom this year and I have thoroughly enjoyed learning and reading about Peppa Pig this year.

This is the prayer we have been working on this month

TRANSITION TIME  & SNACK TIME
Today we had to listen for our name and find a Mickey Mouse to stand on.  We have been working on this all year as well and look at what a great way they are doing!

JESUS TIME
Today we talked about how after Jesus went back to heaven how his followers went about spreading the good word of Jesus.  We sang one our favorite songs Zaccheaus and praying for our family and friends.

Music and Movement
We have really enjoyed learning a wide variety of songs and dances this year in our class.

CIRCLE TIME
Our circle time this year has consisted of reading a story and hearing a flannel board story.  Today we read a book about no matter how we feel or if we have a BOO BOO, a cold, in a bad mood that we can always count on God to be there for us.  We also did the flannel board story of 5 LITTLE DINOSAURS.

CENTER TIME & FREE TIME
This is also the time of day where we hear a wide variety of music and enjoy learning and playing with our friends

KITE MAKING
Mrs. Wegener and our friends worked on making a picture using the watercolor kites we had left over from last week.  First we colored a picture of ourselves so we had to tell Mrs. Wegener if we were our boy or girl. This is something we have worked on through out the year as well.  After we colored our person we glued them on a piece of paper along with our kite and some string.

WRITING OUR NAME
The last few months we have focused on learning the letters of our first name.  We have been practicing learning how to write it and becoming the familiar with the first letter of our name.  This is all about exposing in our friends to the their name and the letters in their name.  A small name portfolio of their first name will come home on their last day of school.

BUSY WITH OUR IMAGINATIONS

MY NAME BEGINS WITH…..
We used our bingo daubers to outline the first letter of our name to include in our name portfolio

IMAGINATIONS HARD AT WORK

FLAMES FOR THE FOLLOWERS OF JESUS
We used red ink pads today to put flames of fire above the followers of Jesus who were going to tell the good news of Jesus.

TRACING A KITE
We have worked on holding a marker, crayon and pencil all year.  Today we used a marker to practice tracing a kite for our pre-writing section in our portfolios.
