Happy St.
Patrick’s Day! We had a great time in
our classroom celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and one our little friends
birthday! We had fun working with the
number 8, rectangles, finishing our Yellow Umbrella project, Stamping shamrocks
and painting with shaving cream, green paint and glue!
A big thank
you to Evan Taylor and his mom for the yummy snack we had to help celebrate
Evan’s birthday. We got to have vanilla
ice cream and delicious shamrock cookies.
Evan’s mom joined us for Morning Meeting and snack today. We love when we have visitors so thank
you!
It was a
little chilly, windy and cloudy this morning but that did not keep us from
going outside and getting some fresh air.
Outside play is so important for our students in PDO so we will do our
best to get outside each class period between now and the end of the year.
With warmer
weather upon us we will continue all of our studies but we will also be
spending a fair amount of time outside it is important that your child is
dressed appropriately for the day.
Please make sure appropriate shoes are worn as well, It would be best to
put an extra set of shoes and clothes in your child’s backpack to be on the
safe side if accidents or if they get muddy occurs. It is also best if you make sure your child
has enough to drink during their time at school. We will do our best to bring drinks outside
when we head out to play.
We had a few
friends that were out sick today so we pray that they are all feeling better
and are able to join us later in the week.
We missed our friends today.
Enjoy reading
about our day!
Jesus Time: This
week's Bible story comes from Matthew 26: 26-29 The First Lord’s Supper
While Jesus and His closest follower were eating the Passover
dinner, Jesus took some bread and thanked God for it. He broke the bread apart and said, “Take this
bread and eat it. Do this to remember me.”
Next He took a cup and said, “When you drink this juice of the
grape, remember me.” Jesus knew this was
his last meal with His followers because He was about to be killed. He wanted his followers to always remember
Him.
Number: We continued to learn
about the number 8 today. We looked at
the number 8 and how it looks like to circles on top of each other. We counted our 8 fingers and then we counted 8
Shamrocks. We also counted our 8 friends
that we had in our classroom today.
During our center time we glued 8 different colors of the number
8. This activity allowed us to work on
recognizing what the number 8 looks like as well as worked on counting 8 number
8’s and we also worked on our color identification. As each number 8 was a different color. We are doing really well as identifying each
color. These are currently displayed in
our hallway on the way to the cubby room be sure and check them out! Some of my friends did this on Thursday and
some of my friends finished up today. We
also stamped 8 raindrops on our Umbrella project today.
Shape: We continue to
work on the shape of a rectangle. We talked
about how the door to our classroom is the shape of a rectangle. One our friends also discovered that our
bulletin board that Mr. Weather Frog is on is the shape of a rectangle.
During center time we had the opportunity to pick out our
favorite color and then cut out a rectangle in that color. We are going to make a big train to go along
with the book we read called Freight Train. We talked about how a rectangle has two short
sides and two long sides. We not only
were working on the shape of the rectangle, but we also worked on color
identification and our fine motor skills, as we had to cut with scissors. Some of our friends have reached the point
where they can cut all on their own. Some
of my friends also completed this last week as well. We also were given 8 different colored
rectangles that we had to identify the color and glue onto a piece of yellow
paper.
Color: Yellow is the color we will be learning about in the
month of March. We placed yellow objects
on our color board today and each student was given the opportunity to help put
an object on the board during Morning Meeting.
During our center time we glued our raincoat onto our umbrella
project and we used yellow paper when we were gluing our rectangles and number
8.
Music and Movement: We sang Jesus Loves Me, and our ABC’s. We also did Five Little Ducks, Wheels on the
Bus and Five Days Old.
Outside Time: We had fun playing out on our playground today as
we worked on our large motor skills! We
worked on our running, jumping, climbing and walking skills. Some of us had fun kicking a ball and trying
to make a basket in the basketball hoop.
Others of us had fun riding on bikes and cars and got busy scooping and
digging in the rock pit.
Patterning: We continued
to work on a new pattern of Shamrock and Leprechaun Hats today during morning meeting.
During our Center Time we did a pattern of dark green shamrock
and light green shamrock. The students
were asked what would come next. This
activity will be included in our portfolio that will be coming home in
May.
We reviewed the letters M and N. We painted our hands this week
to continue our alphabet book that will becoming home in May!
We also worked on the letters in our name mainly the first
letter as we traced the letters of our name with glue and then used gold
glitter to make them sparkle on our rectangle we had cut out for the train that
we are going to make to go along with our Freight Train Book!
Sensory and Science led us to talk about the weather today and how
it was windy, cloudy and cold outside today We also had the opportunity to play
with yellow play dough and make all types of fun things with it. We also talked about if we were a boy or girl
as we worked on our umbrella project and we had to glue a boy or girl on our
paper and add the features needed such as eyes, nose, mouth and hair. Body awareness is something we talk about all
year long. We have the Mr. Potato Heads
out right now which is a great way for us to work on different body parts right
now.
We had a lot of fun with our friends today and we continue to
work on our listening skills! Have a
wonderful evening all my beautiful friends!
.Free Choice Play
Today we listened to a collection of Spring classical music during our free choice time. I am still a very firm believer that children should be exposed to a wide variety of music and the music we play in our room helps set the tone and mood for our day.
