Tuesday, October 20
Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had a wonderful Fall break and you were able to take time to spend outside with your little one taking in the beautiful weather we have been so graciously blessed with. We had a great day in our classroom today exploring, learning and playing. We are continuing our study of the number 3, the shape of a circle and the color Orange. We are learning about the letter "H" this week and our study of the story of Noah continues. We have been busy learning about Fall and Halloween and will continue to do so through the end of October.
A couple of reminders:
We do go outside every day and with the weather starting to become unpredictable please make sure your child is dressed appropriately. It always easier for us to remove layer of clothing than to find clothing for your child to be warm in. Please make sure your child has some type of outerwear to have on outside, the mornings are starting to become cooler and depending on when we go out it could still be chilly. Proper footwear is also important please make sure your child is wearing shoes that stay on their feet and allow for them to run, jump, walk and climb in easily. I know I keep repeating these items but I can not stress how important it is.
Please be sure and make sure all of your children's items are labeled with their name on them. I have some friends that have the same name so please include the initial of your child's last name on their items so that we know who things belong to . Hats, coats, gloves, extra clothes, diapers, lunch boxes, snack, drinks all need to be labeled. Thank you so much this makes Mrs. Wegener and my job a little easier and a little less stressful.
Enjoy viewing and reading about our great day! If you ever have any questions or concerns please feel free to email at hhorn@zionharvester.org.
Free Choice Play
We listened to some classical Disney soundtrack music this morning. A lot of the songs were familiar to the students and it makes for us to have a peaceful fun morning in our classroom.
Sensory Play
We had something new to explore in our sensory table today. We had fun feeling, scooping and pouring the beans that have been put into our table. We are working really hard at remembering that we need to keep whatever we have in the sensory table in the table. Our sensory table is almost always open in the morning for us to explore and play in. We highly encourage all of our students to check it out through out our free choice time.
Play Dough
This group loves play dough! There are mornings that I have thought of not pulling it out and then I think of their little faces and just can't bear to see sad faces of my little friends in the morning. Play dough is a great way for us to work on strengthening our hands and muscles, plus we are counting, cutting, rolling, squishing and being creative. This month we have out Halloween cookie cutters so it is a great way to have a conversation with our friends and work on increasing our vocabularies.
Art Easel
We have been having fun creating and drawing on the art easel.
Cutting with Scissors
We worked on our scissor cutting skills again today as we cut orange paper to continue to fill our jack o'lantern up. We have really had a lot of fun with this project, the minute I say who wants to cut orange paper for the jack o'lantern I have a swarm of little friends around the table. This activity has been great for us to work on just maneuvering the scissors and working on our fine motor skills and pincer grasp as we have to pick up the paper we cut and place it inside the jack o'lantern. We are also seeing what happens from day to day it is becoming filled more and more with orange paper.
Painting a Red Leaf
I know we are talking about the color of orange this month, but we are also talking about the season of Fall and so today we painted red leaves to add to our fall scene that is on our wall. We talked about how the leaves are starting to change colors and that we will begin to see more and more leaves fall to the ground.
Bingo Daubers
We worked on our fine motor skills as we used orange bingo daubers to decorate a pumpkin with a hat on the top of it. We worked really hard at trying to stay in the circles and not to splatter the bingo dauber ink everywhere this required us to work on our self control. Be sure and check your child's folder for this activity they brought home today.
Morning Meeting
Happy Tuesday!
Our October Calendar we talked about the different pictures that help represent the Halloween season. It is a great way for us to work on our counting, patterning, numbering and vocabulary.
Mr. Weather Frog was not to sure about what he needed to wear but we decided it was a little chilly outside this morning.
Our orange board
Our October Pattern of jack o'lantern candy corn
The letter H
This book was great to talk about all the different pumpkins we see during the Halloween season.
Transition/Snack Time
Jesus Time
We are continuing our study of the story of Noah. Today we talked about how Noah had to gather the animals two by two and put them in the big boat (ark) and keep them safe from all the bad rain that God was sending.
After our story we helped fill up the ark with animals two by two. We had fun identifying and saying the different names of the animals. Ask your child tonight what kind of animals that put into Noah's big boat.
Heading Outside
We are working really hard at standing in a line.
Circle Time
After we headed back inside and washing our hands we read a book about what happens in the Fall and what comes after Fall. We talked about how winter is upon us and how it was going to get cold and could snow. After we were done with our story and doing our Five Little Pumpkins Finger Play we headed to centers.
Center Time
Water Color Painting
We painted a page with animals that were going two by two. To help us with our book about Noah that we are making. We reviewed the story and later in the week we will glue our animals we painted onto the boat we painted last week.
Number 3
Today we made a spider book. The book required us to count to three as we used our thumb and made orange spiders in three different spider webs. We practiced counting the number 3 each time we made the spiders and we looked at what the numbers 1 2 3 look like.
Puzzles
Pattern/Shape
Today we did a pattern using the shape we are working on the shape of a circle. Our pattern was orange circle, yellow circle. These will be hanging in our hallway be sure and check out your child's pattern work. Each child is at a different level of learning their patterns. Some are able to complete the pattern without any help, others are able to tell me which one comes next, a few are able to point to the next one in the pattern order and others are still grasping the concept. Patterns are a big in preschool and we are starting the preliminary work as exposing them to simple patterns to help make the transition to preschool a smooth and successful one.
Music and Movement
Because of the beautiful weather we decided to play outside extra long today and we did not do any music and movement today. We did learn the Itsy Bitsy Spider to go along with our Spider Counting Book we made today and we read a story about some Halloween Mice.
Transition and Lunch
I hope you have found the blog to be a great way to see what your child has been doing at school. Please share this blog with other family members or friends that are looking for a place for their little ones. Also, talk about your child's day with them and review the blog with them and ask them what they are doing or what they did with their friends. Blessings on a wonderful evening and I look forward to seeing you all later in the week.
