Our Last Wednesday with Mrs. Linneman

Wednesday December 17, 2014

WOW!  It is so hard to believe that the first semester is almost over.  Where have the last few months gone.  It is so amazing to see how much my little friends have grown over these past few months.  With that being said it is also hard to believe that our time with Mrs. Linneman is coming to an end.  We wish Mrs. Linneman many beautiful blessings and she continues along her journey of getting her education degree.  She will be greatly missed when we return in January.  We spent our day today having lots of fun with her and soaking in the last of our time with her.

We had a lot of fun playing with our friends talking about the birth of Jesus and what we will be doing over our Christmas break. We also had the opportunity to make a special treat for Santa’s reindeer.

Enjoy reading about our day and viewing all of the fun we had.  Please be sure to wish Mrs. Linneman good luck when you see her this week.

Jesus Time: Today we continued Christmas Story and with the help of visual aides we learned how Mary and Joseph had to make a long journey to Bethlehem and when they arrived their was no room for them at the inn.  But they did find a stable that the innkeeper told them they could rest at and that is where Baby Jesus was born!

During our center time we started making our own nativity scene with stickers.

Number:  We continued learning about the number 5 today.  During Morning Meeting we looked at what the number 5 looks like and then we practiced counting to 5. We counted 5 fingers, rubbed our bellies 5 times, stomped our feet 5 times and jumped up and down five times.  We then counted 5 red Christmas Stockings.

During Center Time we counted 5 green triangles and glued them to make a Christmas tree.

Shape:  We are learning about a Triangle during December.  We talked about how a triangle has 3 sides and how a lot of times you can make a Christmas tree out of triangles.

We had 5 green triangles during center time that we used to glue and make a Christmas tree.

Color:  Green was reviewed during our Morning Meeting and instead of filling our color board with green objects we charted what we saw or could fine green in our classroom.

Music and Movement: We also had fun singing our ABC’s, twinkle Little Star.   We sang Happy Birthday to Jesus.  We were so busy today doing so many activities that we didn’t have time for a lot of movement.

Outside Time:  Some of us had an abundant amount of energy so during center time a few of us went outside. We all did go to the commons in the main building and played with our other PDO friends and then went for a walk around the main school we also had a special opportunity to go into our school library and listen to a story read by Mrs. Horn!

Patterning:  We continued working on our pattern of the month of candy cane and Ornaments.  We had fun saying the words and counting to 10!

We decorated a candy cane today using red and green bingo daubers to make a pattern as well work on our color matching skills and number recognition of the numbers 1 and 2.

Science and Sensory:  The sensory table was filled with all different types of things we may see at Christmas time.  It will be opened each day for the children, to touch, look and feel what we may see at Christmas.  Ask them what they saw in the table.  More new Christmas Vocabulary words to learn….

During center time we had fun making reindeer food for Santa’s reindeer on Christmas Eve night.  We also made a special candy cane by painting our thumb red to decorate a candy cane.
Enjoy the pictures from our day!

.Our Advent Calendar that we have been working so hard on during Morning Meeting

.A book we read about how Christmas is about Jesus and how he is the most important gift we could ever receive.

.I told the Christmas story using the magnetic board today.

.Our Christmas pattern for the month of December

.My friends helping me complete our advent calendar

.Transition Time
Wonder what we will find next month for us to practice our name with?

.Working on standing in line

.Commons Play

.We love Mrs Linneman and we will greatly miss her on Wednesdays when we return in January:(

Walking through the big school
Today it was so quite as we walked through the halls of the main school.  All of our big friends were at an Advent service that the 1st and 2nd graders were leading.  We still had a great time and saw lots of neat things on the wall.

.A special treat today we got to stop in the library and Mrs. Horn read us Froggy's Best Christmas Ever.  It was a nice change of pace and allowed us to become more familiar with the main school building.

Center Time
We love the orange chair, it needs a little TLC but is has been a very important part of our classroom this year

.Avery asked for me to spell her name on the wipe off board so she could practice "writing" her name by herself.  We practiced saying the letters together and then she "wrote" her name by herself.

.Claire found the horse to ride on.

.Jack and Sydney decided they wanted to play outside for a while.  So Mrs. Linneman took them and a few others out to run off some energy! We are very fortunate that our classroom allows access to our playground at all times

Candy Cane Patterning

.Nativity Sticker Scenes

.Making a Christmas Tree
First we had to count out 5 green triangles, then we had to put them in order from smallest to biggest.  We then glued them in order add a brown trunk and put a star sticker on the top!

.Coloring a Christmas Picture
Some of us who did not want to go outside colored a Christmas picture using markers.

 .Matching Game
We played a game today where we had to match the correct number together. Some of us had a Christmas Tree and some of us had a present and they each had a number in them and we had to find the friend who had the matching number! This is something that we will be doing more when we come back from Christmas break to help many of us prepare for Preschool!

.We read a book about Clifford's First Christmas. I picked this book today because yesterday I was informed that Norman Bridwell had passed away.  I love to read Clifford books and he is a favorite to many of my students and my own children.

Transition Time
Getting ready to eat Lunch!

.We had a fabulous day and we all had a lot of green on today.  Someone commented to me today in the main building how Green we all looked!  I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and Holiday break.  I look forward to seeing you all in January, many blessings on the Christmas Holiday!
