Terrific Thursday

Today was one of those days that says I am doing what God wanted me to do.  We had an awesome day in our class and we could not have asked for a better way to end the first full week in October!  We continued our study of the number 3, the shape of a circle, the color orange.  We are learning about Noah and what God asked him to do and this week we studied the letter F.  We also discovered some new toys today and that were in our room.  We also did our Blessed to be serve project for the month of October be sure and see the pictures of how we were happy to serve!   It was a really great day and it is truly a blessing to have all these little friends in my class.  Enjoy reading about our day and viewing the pictures!

Free Choice Time
Today we listened to a selection of Disney Music that was composed and sung by Steven Tyrell. They were done to a more classical tune and so it made for a very calming classroom.  We had fun playing with orange play dough and making different Halloween cut outs with the new cookie cutters we had today.  Play dough is a great way for us to work on our sensory skills, fine motor skills and creativity skills.

The boys checking out one of our new toys in our classroom.

Puzzles
We discovered new puzzles in our room this morning.  Many of them have animals on them to help tie in our study of Noah and how he brought the animals two by two to the ark.  Puzzles are a great way for us to work on our problem solving skills, spatial awareness and pre math skills.  They can also be a great "quiet time activity" at home as well.  I highly encourage all my little friends to try a puzzle or two  during free choice time.

GOODBYE SAND
Yes, today was the day we got rid of the sand in our sensory table.  As many of you know I am one of the co-chairs for Trunk or Treat which is being held tomorrow night here at Zion.  So we did a serve project today to help prepare for Trunk or Treat.  We filled 20 jack o'lanterns that will help light the path of the back side of the early childhood wing during trunk or treat.  It was a great way to help on our pouring and scooping skills as well a to talk about what a great way we were helping the school and all of our friends and their families that will be joining us for Trunk or Treat.

Drawing on the Wipe off Board
We LOVE LOVE markers!  This is a great way for us to work on our pre-writing skills, creativity skills and fine motor skills.  We have to use our muscles to pull the lid off the markers and to put them back on.  We are also working on our problem solving and sharing skills as a lot of the time there is more than one friend using the board.   If you have markers that you know are not as brilliant in color or don't work the greatest we will take them off your hands.  I am in need of markers as we go through them fairly quickly.

Mr. Potato Heads
We love playing with these and working on our fine motor skills and our body awareness skills.  This is a great way for us to learn the different parts of our body as well as be just down right silly and crazy with them.  I love seeing what silly things that make their potato heads do.

Morning Meeting
Happy Thursday!
(IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY YOU WILL NOTICE NO ONE HAS A FINGER IN THEIR NOSE OR HANDS IN THEIR MOUTH! )

Today on our calendar for the 8th we had a bat.  We talked a little about where bats live, and that sleep upside down and during the day because they are nocturnal animals.

Number 3 we practiced counting to three and then we counted three jack o'lanterns and we talked about  how they were the same and how they were different.

Our Orange board
Ask your child if they can identify any of the objects on our board.

Letter of the Week is brought to you by the letter F

Pattern for the month is Jack o'lantern candy corn Jack o lantern Candy corn.  We talked about how a pumpkin with a face on it is called a Jack O'lantern and candy corn is something that we see at this time of year.  Some of my friends have tried candy corn somewhere and didn't like it.

We read this book about a leaf and how he changed colors to get ready for fall.

Transition/Snack
We each had to wait for our name to be called so we could put our pumpkin in the pumpkin patch.  This activity allows us to work on hearing our name, hearing the first letter of our name and what it sounds like.  We are also working on recognition of our name not so much what the letters are but what our name looks like.  We are also working on following directions, waiting our turn and self regulation.

I love my pumpkin patch friends so very much!

Look at how great we are doing standing in line.

Heading for the bathroom.

Getting ready to head back to the classroom.  We have finished washing our hands and going potty.

Snack Time

Jesus Time
We are learning about Noah and this week we have talked about how God was mad at all the people because they were bad and he asked Noah who was good to help him and asked him to build a boat called an ark.  So Noah got his hammer, saw, nails and wood and began to build and ark.  The people laughed at him because where he was building the ark there was no water.  But God was getting ready to send lots of rain…we are excited to see what is going to happen next in our story next week.

Heading Outside

Outside Play
We are getting really lucky with this great weather we are having and we are taking full advantage of it.  We were outside for about 45 minutes today. We had fun playing with new and old friends and running,  climbing, jumping, riding bikes and cars and playing in the rock pit, where we practiced our scooping and pouring skills

Circle Time
We came back inside washed our hands and headed for circle time where we read a book about the Fall.  When then played a color matching game where we had to match a colored acorn to the right squirrel.  This game is done as a whole group and transition to center time.  We are working on identification of colors, matching skills, self regulation, pre-math skills and following directions.

Center Time

Cutting
Today we practiced using scissors to cut strips of orange paper to fill up a jack o'lantern that is clear.  We are all at different stages of cutting and that is ok, we work on each friends individual cutting skills to help them achieve the best that they can be.  After each friend cut their strips of orange paper they had to put them into the jack o' lantern.  This is something we will be working on over the next few weeks it is great way to work on seeing the outcome and how much paper it will take to fill it up.

Noah Book
Today we colored the first picture of our Noah book that will becoming home after we are done studying and learning about Noah.  We colored a picture of Noah today to help us remember that Noah was good and God asked him to help him because all the people were bad and God was mad at them.

Stamping Leaves on the Number 3
Today we used fall leaves to stamp with orange ink onto the number three to help us work on what a number 3 looks like and how to make a number 3.  Stamping is a great way to work on our fine motor skills and using our muscles to press down and make the stamp make a picture.

Portfolio Assessment
Today I did some of the assessments that will becoming home in your child's portfolio at the end of the school year.  We will do the same activity a few times through out the year so you can see how they progress through out the year.

Music and Movement
Today we did Five Days Old.  We did not have time to do any other songs today.  With the beautiful weather we are trying to spend the majority of this time outside enjoying the weather.

Our final book was about friends going on a field trip to the pumpkin patch.

Transition and Lunch
We ended our day with waiting for our name to be called so we "pick" our pumpkin from the pumpkin patch.

As I said at the beginning of the blog we had a fabulous day.  Enjoy your evening and blessings on a wonderful weekend I look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow night at Trunk or Treat!
