Welcome to Wednesday in Mrs. Horn's Class. Today we welcomed another new friend to our class, his name is Grant and my friends did a great job of showing him what to do and where things went. It is truly amazing to watch my friends serve and being so kind and helpful to others. This week we have started our study of the color orange, the shape of a circle, the number 3 learning about the letter F and the story of Noah. During the month of October we will also be learning about Halloween and the season of Fall.
Enjoy viewing our day below. Sorry for the lack of picture my phone went missing a couple times today with the hustle and bustle of activity in our classroom and I would forget where I set it down at.
Free Choice Time
We were excited to see the trian table appear in our room today and we had a lot of fun building lots of different tracks on it. A big thank you to Mr. Horn for coming in this morning and bringing it into the classroom. During our Free Choice Time today we listened to music from the soundtrack of Toy Story.
We had new table toys to check out we had fun making funny faces with the Mr. Potatoe Heads today. This activity is great to work on our body awareness skills, fine motor skills and our creativity skills. I love to see all the different silly and funny faces that my friends come up with.
We had fun with the shape box and finding where the different shapes went
Reading new books that are in our classroom.
We enjoyed the sand for one last week in our sensory table
Morning Meeting
Happy Wednesday
Book we read at the end of Morning Meeting. It was about all the different things we can do in the fall.
Transisiton and Snack Time.
this is the part of the day where our name is called and then we come and place our name on the board. This month we have a pumpkin patch that needs to be filled up with pumpkins. After my friends have put their pumpkin in the pumpkin patch they find a Mickey Mouse to stand on so we can go use the potty and wash our hands. This activity helps us with a variety of skills such as self control, as we wait for our name to be called, letter and name recognition, colors, listening skills and following directions.
Our finished pumpkin patch
Potty Break
We go as a class and we stand on the wall when our name is called if we are potty trained or in the midst of potty training we go the bathroom and wash our hands. If we are not to that stage yet then we wait for our name to be called and then we wash our hands. When we are done we sit down on the wall and wait for our friends to finish. As we are waiting we usually sing a song that helps us identify different parts of our bodies to help us with body awareness. When everyone is finished we stand up and head back to the classroom for snack.
Snack Time
We all sit in a chair and stay seated until Mrs. Horn or Mrs Wegner say it is ok to get up and put our drinks and trash away. Snack time is usually about 10 minutes. During this time we are working on our manners, sitting at the table with our feet on the floor and in front of us, keeping our food on the table not throwing it on the floor, talking in a soft quiet voice and cleaning up our area when we are done.
Jesus Time
Today we read about how God was mad at all the people for being so bad and that Noah was good and that God wanted Noah to build a boat called and Ark
Outside Time
It was great weather to be outside today. Please make sure your child is dressed apprporatiely for the weather and that they have shoes that stay on their feet at all times. We had a couple of friends who had shoes that did not stay on very well today and it made for a frustrating outside time for them and for the teachers.
Circle Time
After we return from outside we wash our hands and then sit down to listen to a story, do a finger play or flannel board story and then we play a group game. Today we played a color matching game. We had to match the acorn we were given to the right squirrel with the same color of acorn. This activity helped us with our colors, taking turns, waiting our turn, matching, following directions and self regulation.
Center Time
Today we listened during our Center time to some Christian Rock Music
Independent Reading
For some reason we have enjoyed moving the chairs to the stage to read lately. Reading is so important and I highly encourage that you read with your child for 20 minutes every day. Books are always available in my classroom and there is so much to be learned when my friends are looking at books.
Puzzles
This is another activity that is highly encouraged and available all the time. Puzzles are a great way to work on problem solving skills, math skills, shape, color and spaiatial awareness. It is also a great quiet activity.
Dramatic Play
Grant found two babies and he was so excited to hold them and play with them. I strongly encourage this area of play. Children in today's society have a hard time with imaginative play because of the access to Ipads, I touch, I phones, tablets, computers and television. I encourage you to monitor your child's screen time and encourage them to play.
Bingo Dauber
Today we decorated a pumpkin using an orange bingo dauber and we were able to incorporate our theme of Halloween, color of orange and the shape of a circle all into one center. Bingo Daubers are a great way to work on prewriting skills, holidng a writing tool, spaitial awareness and self control. We use bingo daubers quite frequently in our classroom and you will see a progression of work in your child's portfolio when they come home in May.
Number 3
We worked on recogninzing the number 3 today by using the orange bingo dauber again by tracing the outline of the number 3 on the paper.
F is Frog
Today we colored a picture of a frog to help us remember what the letter F looks like and sounds like. As we were working on the letter F we were also working on our fine motor skills, pre-writing skills, spaitial awareness, vocabulary and color recognintion.
Noah
Today we also colored a picture of Noah for our Noah book we are making during our study of Noah and the Ark during the month of October. Our Creation Books will be coming home in the next week or so.
Portfolio Assessment
Today some of my friends worked on assessments that will be included in your child's portfolio that will becoming home at the end of the school year.
Silly Easton, he wanted me to wear the glasses and then he wanted to wear the glasses I have to say he looks way cuter in them than I did!
Music and Movement
Since we are able to get outside and enjoy the nice weather our music and movement will not be quite as long as it will be in the winter months. Today we did the Wheeels on the Bus and Jumping and Counting.
Transiston/Lunch
We ended our day with waiting for our name to be called and then we had to take our pumpkin out of the pumpkin patch and then find a Mickey Mouse to stand on to wait to go to the bathroom to wash hands and use the potty.
I hope you have enjoyed viewing our day and I look forward to seeing you all in the next week.
God Blessings on your night.
