First Full Week of October

Welcome to the month of October.  We have a busy month planned ahead of us and we will be learning and doing lots of fun things!  We started our study of the number 3, the shape of the circle and the color Orange.  We have a new pattern that is jack lantern's and candy corn.  Our calendar has new and different pictures that will help us learn about the fall and the holiday of Halloween.  This month we will be learning about Noah and the Ark God had him build and the animals that he kept safe two by two.  This week we are learning about the letter F.  I am excited to see what all this month brings us.  I love this time of year we are in our groove and with so many different holidays it gives us a wide variety of topics to talk about and be exposed to.

With the weather changing please be sure and have your child bring a jacket of some sort with them everyday.  The mornings are cooler and it may or may not warm enough by the time we get ready to venture outside for our outside time.  We will go outside everyday as long as it is not raining.

WISH LIST
I am looking for a couple bags of birdseed so we can start filling our bird feeders.  My friends love to watch the birds eat from the bird feeders we spent a great deal of time last year watching the birds eat from the feeders.  We would talk about the different types of birds that we saw and we would count the birds we saw at the feeders it was a great learning experience last year and I am hoping the same type of experience will happen again this year.  Thank you for your help!

Below are the pictures from our day and what we did today.  Enjoy viewing how your child spent their day with me.  As always I love being with them and learn so much from them on a daily basis!

Free Choice
This morning we had fun playing with new orange play dough and using some Halloween Cookie Cutters to make different fun shapes with our play dough.  During our Free Choice Time we listened to music by Yo-Yo Ma  he is a famous violinist and plays some beautiful calming music which made for a really great morning in our classroom.

Independent Reading
We love books in this class and we have new books every week and love to look at them, read them and be read too.  I encourage you to read with your child 20 minutes a day if you can.

Morning Meeting
Happy Tuesday!
(My Goal for the end of the year is to get a picture of each class with no one with their finger in their nose;))

We have a new bulletin board background and new calendar pieces.  Today was spooky eyes!

Mr. Weather Frog was ready to play outside in this beautiful weather we are having.

Our New Number, shape and color for the month.

Our Orange Board

This week is all about the letter F!

This book was about two friends who were wanting the leaves to fall from the trees to help them get into the season of fall.  These two little friends reminded me of two little girls in our class that have become great friends over the past few months.  I love to see friendships form and the bond that two little friends have with each other.

Our new pattern for the month of October is jack o lantern candy corn jack o lantern.  We have some new words that we will be learning this month and will be practicing them through out the month.

Transition/Snack
Today we just had to put our pumpkins on the wall because our pumpkin patch would not stay on the wall.  Hopefully I can get it better secured by tomorrow.

Practicing standing in line

Jesus Time
We are starting to learn about Noah, today we learned that God came and told Noah that he was mad at the people and needed to build an ark.  Our prayer for today was Dear God, Thank you for telling Noah that he needed to build an ark, in your name we pray, Amen.

Getting ready to head outside
Please remember that we need to have appropriate clothing, footwear and outerwear as we get ready to see cooler temperatures.

Outside Play
Sorry my camera was acting crazy during our outside time so I did not get to many pictures of our friends playing outside.  We did play outside for a good 45 minutes.  When our outside time is longer we will have less music and movement time.  Our music and movement time will increase as our outside time decreases.

Circle Time
We read a story about a Porcupine that was so tired he didn't want to finish the race.  We talked about our different emotions and feelings.

We then played a matching color game with an Acorn and a squirrel.  Again my camera was acting crazy sorry no pictures of us playing this game we will play it again this week.

Center Time

Bingo Daubers
Today we used our orange bingo daubers to decorate a pumpkin.  We were able to work on the color orange for the month of October, become familiar with the shape of the circle and able to work on our fine motor skills.  Bingo Daubers are a great way for us to work on staying in a small space and holding a writing tool as well as being able to use self control when working with a writing tool.  We say up and down as we use the bingo dauber and make sure that we don't press down to hard on the paper.

Playing with toys
The trains are still a big hit in our classroom and will continue to stay in our classroom until the interest is no longer there.  Playing with the trains provides us with math skills, problem solving skills and cooperation.

We had some crazy shoppers today on the loose in our classroom.  We had to talk a lot about using our walking feet and to remember that we need to watch out for our friends in the classroom.

Dance Recital

Julija took all the chairs and lined them up on the stage and instructed where her friends would sit.  She then used the Christian Rock Music we were playing during our Center time.  It was so neat to watch how Juilja and her friends all worked together to use their imaginations as they played.  Play is such a big part of early childhood and we strongly encourage it in our PDO and preschool program

Coloring a Fish for the letter F

Today as we talked about the letter F we colored a picture of a bowl of Fish to help us with the letter F. Coloring with crayons is a great way for us to work on our pre-writing skills as we work on learning how to hold a writing tool and how to apply pressure to make color on the paper.

Independent Reading
Books are always available in our classroom to look at and to read.

Number Three
Today to help us with the study of the number 3 we used orange circle stickers to trace the outline of the number 3.  Using stickers is a great way to work on our pincer grasp to work on the fine motor skill to peel the sticker of the paper and transfer to the paper we were working on.  We were able to combine  our studies of the number 3, the color orange and the shape of a circle all into this one center.

Puzzles
We love puzzles and this is something that is always offered in our class.  It is wonderful to watch how great some of the students have become at doing the puzzles it is a great calming activity and a great way to work on our problem solving skills.

Music and Movement
We had fun dancing to Five Days Old and singing The Wheels on The Bus Today.

We finished our music and movement time today with a book about different things we may see at Halloween.  We also talked about when we go trick or treating that we Say Trick or Treat and after someone gives us Candy we say thank you and wait to eat our candy when mom and dad say it is ok.

Transition/ Lunchtime

When our name was called we had to find our pumpkin on the wall.  It is a little tricky this month as all the pumpkins are the same color.  This is to really help with the recognition of our name and what it looks like.  Your child does not need to know how to spell or write their name till they are in their last year of Preschool.

We had a great day and a lot of fun learning about fun things we will be experiencing and seeing over the month of October.  I hope you have enjoyed looking at our day and hope you have a wonderful evening.
