We are into the middle of Week 5 and we had an
awesome day in PDO! We had so much fun
exploring, learning how to play and share with our friends. Our time together is becoming more routine
and my friends are learning what comes next in our day. We continue to add to our curriculum each
week and are continuing to grow and learn!
Below is what we did today in class.
We welcomed another new friend to our class today and she was surrounded
by a group of great new friends!
Jesus Time: Today we continued our study of the story of
Creation focusing on days 5 and 6. The following is an excerpt from our
children's Bible.
The fifth day
Genesis 1:20-31
On day five God made starfishes, octopuses, whales, and
turtles. He made fast lisle fish for tiers and slippery big fish for
the ocean. He made big birds like eagles to soar in the sky and zippy
little birds like hummingbirds. He made birds in all shapes, sizes, and colors.
The sixth day
On day six God made the animals--puppies, cows, horses, kitties,
bears, lizards, mice, worms, and lots more. Everything was good. But something
was still missing. There were no people. So God made some. And when He made
them, He made them like Himself. He made them so they could be friends with Him.
We water colored two more pages in our Creation Water Color
Books.
Number: We continued our study of the number 2. We practiced holding up two fingers. We then waved our two fingers in the air. Then we practiced counting 1-2, clapping our
hands two times, stomping our feet two times, jumping up and down two times,
rubbing our tummies two times and turning around two times and waving our hands
two times.
Our center time activity led us to a number 2 with octagon shapes
that we used a red bingo dauber to help us make the number 2.
Shape: We continued studying about the shape of an Octagon. We
reviewed today that an octagon has 8 sides and practiced counting the eight
sides. Saying the word Octagon can be
tricky but we will keep working at it.
We talked about how an Octagon shape looks like a stop sign and when we
see a stop sign we need to STOP!!! I
also brought in a clock that was from my childhood home that was in the shape
of an octagon.
Our center time activity involved us in a paper with Officer Bob
trying to tell the cars to stop, but he was missing his stop sign so we had to
help him out and glue a red octagon stop sign on our paper
Letter: We are studying about the letter “C” today. Words that we
talked about that began with the letter C were car, clown, cloud, crab, corn,
cucumber, cool, cook, crayon and our new friend’s name Claire! We looked at what a letter C looks like and
practiced saying the C sound.
Our center activity allowed us to have our hand painted the color red
to complete the third page in our alphabet book we now have added a red crab to
our book. We also had the opportunity to
color a picture of a cat that came home in our red folders today.
Color: RED is the color we are learning about the month of
September. WE started our morning
meeting with identifying different objects that are red on our color
board.
We also got to paint a picture of Elmo our funny furry monster. We had fun reading a book about Clifford when
he was a little puppy. We also decorated
an apple using a red paint dauber. Check
out the apples on our tree.
Music and Movement: We had fun jumping and counting doing,
dancing and turning around. We practiced
singing our ABC’s, Read the Bible song and Jesus loves me. We also did the Silly Dance Song with our
friends.
Outside Time: Even though it was cloudy outside it was a great
day for us to play outside wit our friends form the other PDO classes. We had fun running and jumping and riding the
bikes. We had fun scooping rocks in and out of the rock pit as well as climbing
on to the bubble
Enjoy the pictures from our day!
Free Choice Play!
Today we were introduced to the sensory table. This is a great way for children to be able to work on how things look and feel. Today we had green and red pasta noodles in our sensory table. We practiced scooping and pouring the noodles from one container to another a great fine motor skills. The sensory table will be available most days during Free Choice Play.
I love seeing friends loving each other!
We are practicing in the above picture jumping 2 times to help us with our counting skills of 1-2
Dressing Mr. Weather Frog is getting a little tricky with our crazy St. Louis Weather but my friends did a great job with dressing him today.
As I stated above we are working on new concepts all the time and last week we introduced patterning simple patterns such as the one about that is called and A-B pattern.
Transition Time
Each child was given an apple with their name on it. When they heard their name called they were asked to place the apple in our basket and then find a Mickey Mouse to stand on while we wait for all of our friends to be called so that we may go wash our hands for snack.
Circle Time
A time when we work on small motor skills to build our finger and hand muscles we then work on our letter sounds, learn about the letter of the week, sing our ABC's work on learning our colors as I draw a picture on our board.
Outside Play
Center Time
Here is our beautiful tree that we are making for fall. We have some delicious apples on our tree right now.
