END OF WEEK FIVE!

Thursday, September 18, 2014

What a great way to end Week 5 of this school year!   Even though we had early dismissal today we had a wonderful busy day in our classroom.  Each week this group of friends amazes me with their listening skills and how well they can follow directions!  They are doing a great job following our routines and the schedule for the day.  We continue to add to our curriculum each week and are becoming more comfortable in the classroom.  This class plays really well together and is learning a great deal from each other.

Jesus Time: Today we continued our study of the story of Creation focusing on days 5 and 6. The following is an excerpt from our children's Bible.

The fifth day
Genesis 1:20-31
On day five God made starfishes, octopuses, whales, and turtles. He made fast lisle fish for tiers and slippery big fish for the ocean. He made big birds like eagles to soar in the sky and zippy little birds like hummingbirds. He made birds in all shapes, sizes, and colors.

The sixth day
On day six God made the animals--puppies, cows, horses, kitties, bears, lizards, mice, worms, and lots more. Everything was good. But something was still missing. There were no people. So God made some. And when He made them, He made them like Himself. He made them so they could be friends with Him.

We completed day 5 and 6 in our Creation books that will be coming home in a few short weeks.  We had fun stamping, gluing and sponge painting for these two days.

Number:  We continued our study of the number 2.  We practiced holding up two fingers.  We then waved our two fingers in the air.  Then we practiced counting 1-2, clapping our hands two times, stomping our feet two times, jumping up and down two times, rubbing our tummies two times and turning around two times and waving our hands two times.

Our center time activity led us to a putting two eyes with a bingo dauber on an octagon person we made today, we also glued on two arms and two hands as well.

Shape:  We continued studying about the shape of an Octagon. We reviewed today that an octagon has 8 sides and practiced counting the eight sides. We talked about how an Octagon shape looks like a stop sign and when we see a stop sign we need to STOP!!!

Our center time activity involved us in a making a person call Octagon Man.  We had to put on his eyes, noes and mouth as well as arms and legs.  Not only were we working on the shape of an octagon but we also worked on body awareness.

Letter: We are studying about the letter “C” today. Words that we talked about that began with the letter C were car, clown, cloud, crab, corn, cucumber, cool, cook, crayon, carrot, cupcake and clap. We looked at what a letter C looks like and practiced saying the C sound.

Our center activity allowed us to have our hand painted the color red to complete the third page in our alphabet book we now have added a red crab to our book.  We also had the opportunity to color a picture of a cat that came home in our red folders today. We also used a green bingo dauber to trace the outline of an Uppercase and Lower case C as well as a caterpillar.

Color:  RED is the color we are learning about the month of September.  WE started our morning meeting with identifying different objects that are red on our color board.

We also got to paint a picture of Lighting McQueen from the movie CARS.  We had fun reading a book about a RED RHINO.  We also practiced cutting red yarn and gluing it on an apple that is on our special tree in our classroom.

Music and Movement:  We had fun jumping and counting doing, dancing and turning around.  We practiced singing our ABC’s, Read the Bible song and Jesus loves me.  We also did the Silly Dance Song with our friends.  We also did I am Bringing Home a Baby Bumble Bee and Five Day’s Old

Outside Time:  We had a great time playing outside on this beautiful fall weather.  Unfortunately, I did not have any pictures of us having so much fun outside I forgot it inside.  SORRYL

Sensory:  We had fun in the sensory table to playing with red and green pasta noodles.  We had fun feeling them and pouring and scooping them from one cup to another cup or container.

Enjoy the pictures from our day.  !

Free Choice Play
During this time while my friends are playing music is played through out the classroom. I tried to pick something different everyday, some days we just listen to instrumental, sometimes it is common songs my friends hear from movies, as well as songs we may hear in church.  I believe that allows children to be exposed to different types of music and helps the classroom stay calm and relaxed.  Today we listened to a variety of music from composer George Winston.

I love to see friends reading books. On any given day in our classroom you can find one or more friends looking at books in our reading area.

Evan had a traffic jam going on that he was trying to help clear up.

Sarah was hard at work on a masterpiece.

Nicholas was excited to show me his "lion cub" that he made out of red play dough

Ella was busy drawing a "house" on the chalk board.

Julija's baby sister was not happy and some of our friends thought singing a song would make her feel better so we sang Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.  It melted my heart to see how concerned they were about her and what they could do to make her feel better

Morning Meeting
We are currently working on standing up when we hear our name called in our Welcome song.

We love to have books read to us.

Our current pattern we are working on .

Circle Time

This book really grasped their attention we talked about a lot of different things in this book.

 Getting ready to Head Outside
Sorry for not having any pictures from our outside time

Center Time
We were busy today with painting, cutting, gluing, bingo daubing, coloring, counting and recognizing the letter of the Week the letter C

Music and Movement
WE LOVE TO DANCE!

As a transitional activity today we had put our apples on the board when our name was called after our Morning Meeting.  Before we washed our hands for lunch today I called each student up and asked them to find their name on the board and bringing me their apple.  This activity is helping us with our listening skills, following directions, waiting for our friends, patience and what our name looks like.  We did great today.

As you can see we did have a very full day and lots of fun while doing a whole lot of learning.  Have  a weekend and I am looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday DON"T FORGET TO WEAR RED!!!
