WELCOME TO WEEK 4 of the
2014 school year. We started new letter,
number shape and color today and had fun exploring and learning. See below for descriptions of each area we
are studying as well as pictures from our fun filled day!
Jesus Time: Today we continued our study of the story of
Creation focusing on days 3 and 4. The following is an excerpt from our
children's Bible.
Genesis 1:9-19
The Third Day
On the third day God was busy. He made puddles and oceans and
lakes and waterfalls and rivers. He made the dry ground too. Next, He made
plants. He made so many different kinds of trees, flowers, and bushes, that no
one could count them all. God said His work was good.
The Fourth Day
On day four God put the sun in the sky to warm the earth. He saw
that the night was very dark, so God put the moon and the stars in the sky.
Then God Made spring, summer, fall and winter. All that He made was good.
We worked on making the next two pages in our Creation Book. We had to cut a piece of brown paper for the
trunk, then use glue to glue it on as well
as a flower and stem. We then
painted our hand green to make the leaves on the tree. For day four we glued a moon, sun and stamped
stars on our pages.
Number: We began our study of the number 2. We practiced holding up two fingers, which
could be a little tricky. We then waved
our two fingers in the air. Then we
practiced counting 1-2, then clapping our hands two times, stomping our feet
two times, jumping up and down two times.
Our center time activity consisted of us gluing two tires on a
bicycle. We also had fun painting two
red strawberries.
Shape: We began studying about the shape of an Octagon. We
learned today that an octagon has 8 sides.
We even practiced counting the eight sides whew that was hard work! Saying the word Octagon can be tricky but we
will keep working at it. We talked about
how an Octagon shape looks like a stop sign and when we see a stop sign we need
to STOP!!!
Our center time activity involved us using a paint dauber to trace
the outline of an octagon to help us become familiar with the shape.
Letter: This week we are studying the letter “B”. Words that we
talked about that began with the letter B were, bumble bee, bear, banana, book,
bird, and berry. We looked at what a letter
B looks like and practiced saying the B sound.
Our center activity allowed us to have our hand painted the color
yellow to complete the second page in our alphabet book we know have added a yellow
Bird to our book.
Color: RED is the color we are learning about the month of
September. WE started our morning
meeting with identifying different objects that are red on our color
board.
We also got to paint two red strawberries for our center time
activity that helped us remember what the color red looks like.
Music and Movement: We continued to do songs that have to do
with self-regulation. We practiced jumping and counting, Turning around
clapping our hands and we also practiced brushing our teeth and catching a baby
bumble bee
Outside Time: We were outside for about 45 minutes today we
got to ride bikes, play in the rock pit, color with sidewalk chalk and play
with our other friends in the PDO classes.
Enjoy the pictures from our day. We are doing really well with
our routine and we are continuing to get to know each other. We are using our listening ears fairly well
and are having a lot of fun!

Morning Meeting
Mr. Weather Frog ready for a beautiful day!
Calendar gave us an orange square for today.
our color identification board for the month
Our number 2 and the octagon that tells us to STOP!
Our Bible Story Pictures
We discovered that Miss Spider loves to count as is actually rather nice!
We started a new lesson during Morning Meeting today. We began learning about A-B patterning. Each day we have morning meeting we will do a pattern. Today it was red apple-green apple-red apple-green apple. I start the pattern and then have the students tell me what is going to come next. This is a great introduction to pattering as the year progress' we will do some patterning activities during center time.
Transition Time
Today we were given an apple with our name on it. When our name was called we had to put the apple in our basket on the wall and then find a Mickey Mouse to stand and wait to go and wash our hands. This is a great way for us to get ready for snack and work on our listening skills, self regulation and patience.
Our Basket is quite full with some really great apples!
Circle Time
We did the silly dance contest! We love this song and it really helps us with our listening skills!
Color Identification board and apple orchard with a few pumpkins too!
We learned a lot about different fruits and vegetables that we had not hear of before and lots we had.
We practiced singing our ABC's, our letter sounds and learning about the letter B
Lining up getting ready to head outside and play!
OUTSIDE TIME!
Center Time
Began with us gluing on two wheels for our bicycle. We had to count out two black wheels and then squeeze the glue on the wheel turn the wheel over and place them in the right spot. We did great with our counting skills and worked hard at squeezing the glue out of the bottles.
An Octagon Has 8 sides
We used the red bingo dauber today to make the outline of the Octagon shape. This exercise allows us to work on our self control using a writing tool and staying in one space as well as become familiar with the shape.
CREATION BOOK
We worked on day 3 and 4 of our Creation books. As we did each page we talked about what God created on each day. We got to work on our scissor skills as well as our hand muscles as we had to squeeze the glue and we got to paint our hand green for the leaves of our tree.
Cutting with Scissors
Today we had to cut a straight line and stop at the Stop Sign. Cutting with scissors is something that we will do through out the entire year. Most of our friends at this stage need help holding the scissors and cutting the paper. We use a technique called hand over hand this is where the student picks up the scissors and the teacher helps place their hands in the scissors correctly. The teacher then puts their hands over the child's and helps them cut. As the year progress many of our friends will be able to use the scissors on their own.
Mrs. Linneman and Julija doing hand over hand to cut with the scissors.
B is for Bird
We did the second page in our alphabet book today. We painted our hand yellow to make a bird. As we painted our hands we talked about words that begin with the letter B. Ask your child if they can make the B sound and if there are any words they can think of that start with B.
Music and Movement
We read this silly book about Sheep driving a red jeep!
LUNCH TIME
When we got ready to wash our hands for lunch we practiced hopping on two feet to the bathroom. This is a great way for us to work on our gross motor skills. We are getting better at jumping on two feet.
We ended our day with a little independent reading. You can never have too many books and it is a great way to teach children how to love books!
We had a busy fun filled day as you can see from the pictures. We had fun counting, singing and dancing, listening to stories which this group loves to do. I hope you have a wonderful evening I look forward to seeing my friends soon!
