Week 3 of the school year is done and all I have to say it has been a great three weeks.  I have been blessed with some really great friends and I thank you for all your support and patience as we get into the routine of things!  We spent today reviewing the number one, the color blue, and the shape of a square.  We began learning about the letter A, started our study of the story of Creation.  Next week we will be introduced to the Number 2, the color red, the shape of an octagon and the letter B!

.

Jesus Time: Today we began our study of the story of Creation
The First Day Genesis 1:1-5
In the beginning God made heaven and earth. At first it was empty and dark. But God gathered up the light and called it day. Then he gathered up the darkness and called it night. God was watching over everything.
The Second Day Genesis 1:6-8
On day two God divided the air from the water. He put some water above the air and some below it. He named the air sky.

Each week we will add 2 more days to our study of God's Creation.  Today during center time we began our making our own book about the story of Creation, which will come home after we complete all 7 days of Creation.  We also water colored scenes from the first two days of creation.

Number:  We reviewed the number one by holding up one finger, saying the number one and then waving our 1 finger in the air.  My friends helped me clap our hands one time, stomp our feet one time and blink our eyes one time (that was a little tricky!) and rub our tummies one time.

Shape:  We reviewed the shape of a square.  We talked about how it has four sides and often looks like a window.  I then asked the children if they could help me find things in the classroom that were the shape of squares!   We have done really well using our detective skills to find different squares in our classroom.  We practiced cutting squares to glue on to the second page of our creation book.

Letter: We began our journey of studying one letter of the alphabet a week. Letter A was up first, we practiced saying the letter A sound and then listened to different words that began with the letter A, such as apple, ant, awesome, Avery, animal, aardvark.  And Ariel.  After we practiced saying those words we colored a picture of an alligator shaped like the letter that should be in your child's red folder.  We also started an alphabet book that your child will be bringing home at the end of the year.  Today we painted our hands red and made an apple for the letter A.     We then used a red bingo dauber to trace the outline of an Upper Case and lower case A and find apples on the apple tree.

Color:  We reviewed the color blue today.  During our morning meeting we identified different blue objects and during center time we painted a picture of an airplane and painted the water that God created on the second page of our creation book we are making.

Music and Movement:  We had fun doing a finger exercises to Beethoven's Fifth Symphony.  We also did jumping and counting; My Hands are stuck like Glue All of the songs we are currently working on have to do with self-regulation.

Outside Time:  it was a little humid but we were able to finally play outside for about 10 minutes in the morning we played on the grassy area where the soccer nets are.  We did go to the commons to play with our other PDO friends and then after lunch we went out for about 10 minutes.

Enjoy the pictures from our day.  This group plays really well together and is settling into routines really well!
