What another wonderful Wednesday we had in Room C of PDO! I hope everyone enjoyed their extended weekend and you found time to be with family and friends. We had a great day in our classroom and even though we have entered the month of September we are going to continue our studies of the number 1, the shape of a square and the color blue for one more week. We did begin our study on the story of creation by learning about day 1 and day 2 and we started our study of the alphabet starting with the letter A. As we continue to progress through the school year new ideas and concepts will be introduced each week. Next week we will begin our study of the color red, the number 2 and the shape of the octagon.
Jesus Time: Today we begun our study of the story of Creation
The First Day Genesis 1:1-5
In the beginning God made heaven and earth. At first it was empty and dark. But God gathered up the light and called it day .Then he gathered up the darkness and called it night. God was watching over everything.
The Second Day Genesis 1:6-8
On day two God divided the air from the water. He put some water above the air and some below it. He named the air sky.
Each week we will add 2 more days to our study of God's Creation. Today during center time we began our making our own book about the story of Creation which will come home after we complete all 7 days of Creation. We also water colored scenes from the first two days of creation.
Number: We continued our study of the number one by holding up one finger, saying the number one and then waving our 1 finger in the air. My friends helped me clap our hands one time, stomp our feet one time and blink our eyes one time (that was a little tricky!) and rub our tummies one time. During center time we had to find the number ones that our fish ate up and put a star sticker on the number 1. As we did this activity we repeated saying the number one as we placed a sticker on each number one.
Shape: We continued our study of the square. We talked about how it has four sides and often looks like a window. I then asked the children if they could help me find things in the classroom that were the shape of squares! We practiced our pre-writing skills by tracing the outline of different types of squares to make a small square book. We also cut out blue paper to glue on a large blue square.
Letter: Today we began our journey of studying one letter of the alphabet a week. Letter A was up first, we practiced saying the letter A sound and then listened to different words that began with the letter A, such as apple, ant, awesome, Avery and Ariel. After we practiced saying those words we colored a picture of an ant and the letter A that should be in your child's red folder. We also started an alphabet book that your child will be bringing home at the end of the year. Today we painted our hands red and made an apple for the letter A. We then used a blue bingo dauber to trace the outline of the letter A.
Color: We are continuing our study about the color blue this week. During our morning meeting we identified different blue objects and during center time we painted a picture of a blue car and painted the water that God created on the second page of our creation book we are making.
Music and Movement: We had fun doing a finger exercises to Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. We had fun doing The Silly Dance Contest and Counting to 10 as we Jumped around. All of the songs we are currently working on have to do with self regulation.
Outside Time: it was a little humid but we were able to finally play outside for an extended period of time which was great and my friends really enjoyed being outside running, playing and riding the cars and bikes
Enjoy the pictures from our day. We are all adjusting really well and are having fun learning and playing!
FREE CHOICE PLAY
today we had a variety of activities to chose from at the table from painting a car blue, playing with blue play dough, using our problem solving skills to complete a puzzle, coloring some coloring pages and blocks. We also were able to play with any of the toys that were on the shelf, read books and draw on the dry erase board and the chalk boards which we love to do.
Sydney and Kate enjoyed playing with the different animals and it gave me the opportunity to sit and talk with them about the different animals and where they live and what they look like .
Silly Jack he asked me to take his picture of him being a funny boy!
The chalkboard is an activity that is always open and available. We love to see what creathion s they will come up with.
Free coloring this is a great way for children to color and use what ever color and just color ill their heart t is content.
Sydney was getting ready to build a tower.
Painting our blue cars that are hanging in our our hallway be sure to check it out.
