Week 5 has begun and we had
an awesome day in PDO! We had so much
fun exploring, learning how to play and share with our friends. Our time together is becoming more routine
and my friends are learning what comes next in our day. We continue to add to our curriculum each
week and are continuing to grow and learn!
Below is what we did today in class
Jesus Time: Today we continued our study of the story of
Creation focusing on days 5 and 6. The following is an excerpt from our
children's Bible.
The fifth day
Genesis 1:20-31
On day five God made starfishes, octopuses, whales, and
turtles. He made fast lisle fish for tiers and slippery big fish for
the ocean. He made big birds like eagles to soar in the sky and zippy
little birds like hummingbirds. He made birds in all shapes, sizes, and colors.
The sixth day
On day six God made the animals--puppies, cows, horses, kitties,
bears, lizards, mice, worms, and lots more. Everything was good. But something
was still missing. There were no people. So God made some. And when He made
them, He made them like Himself. He made them so they could be friends with
Him.
We worked on making the next two pages in our Creation Book. We stamped fish and glued birds onto day 5 of
our book and for day 6 we puts stickers of different animals on our page 6 as
well as some people.
Number: We continued our study of the number 2. We practiced holding up two fingers. We then waved our two fingers in the air. Then we practiced counting 1-2, clapping our
hands two times, stomping our feet two times, jumping up and down two times,
rubbing our tummies two times and turning around two times and waving our hands
two times.
Our center time activity led us using red bingo dauber to find all
the number 2’s on an apple shape. As we
did this activity we practiced saying the number 2 each time we found one. The repetition of this activity allowed us to
become familiar with what the number 2 looks like and what it sounds like.
Shape: We continued studying about the shape of an Octagon. We
reviewed today that an octagon has 8 sides and practiced counting the eight
sides. Saying the word Octagon can be
tricky but we will keep working at it.
We talked about how an Octagon shape looks like a stop sign and when we
see a stop sign we need to STOP!!! I
also brought in a clock that was from my childhood home that was in the shape
of an octagon.
Our center time activity involved us in a paper with two different cars
that needed to stop on the road so we had to glue two red octagons to help the
cars stop.
Letter: We are studying about the letter “C” today. Words that we
talked about that began with the letter C were car, clown, cloud, crab, corn,
cucumber, cool, cook and colors. We
looked at what a letter C looks like and practiced saying the C sound.
Our center activity allowed us to have our hand painted the color red
to complete the third page in our alphabet book we know have added a red crab
to our book. We also had the opportunity
to color a picture of a cow that came home in our red folders today.
Color: RED is the color we are learning about the month of
September. WE started our morning
meeting with identifying different objects that are red on our color
board.
We also got to paint Clifford the Big Red Dog. We had fun reading a book about Clifford when
he was a little puppy. We also were
given the opportunity to cut red strips of to glue onto an apple that is know
hanging on our apple tree in the classroom be sure to check out the apples on
our tree.
Music and Movement: We had fun jumping and counting doing
Beethoven Fifth Symphony, dancing and turning around. We practiced singing our ABC’s, Read the
Bible song and Jesus loves me.
Outside Time: Even though it was cloudy outside it was a great
day for us to play outside wit our friends form the other PDO classes. We had fun running and jumping and riding the
bikes. We had fun scooping rocks in and out of the rock pit as well as climbing
on to the bubble
Enjoy the pictures from our day. !
Free Choice Play
We had a lot of reading going on today in our reading area. I love to see friends looking at books it is very encouraged in this class. Even though they are not "reading" they are working on their pre-reading skills by holding the book correctly, turning the pages the correct direction and how to look at the words left to right. We also are able to make-up our own stories as we look at all the different pictures in the books
we had fun drawing an creating on the chalk board and the wipe off board. This activity is also great to work on our pre-writing skills and our imaginations. I love seeing what our friends draw and create.
Sensory Table Fun
This week we introduced the sensory table. We currently have red and green pasta noodles in there. We worked on our scooping and pouring skills. This is a great way for us to feel and touch different things. The sensory table will be available during free choice time on most days.
Julija's new baby sister came to visit for a few minutes while they dropped off Julija. Some of our friends were very curious to see the baby. We looked but did not touch!
