Happy Groundhog Day!

Tuesday, February 02, 2016

Happy Groundhog Day!  Today even though it was the beginning of a new month we spent our day learning about the groundhog and doing most of our activities were centered on the Groundhog.  I know it sounds crazy but my family loves this day of the year.  My brother was the one who turned it into a tradition in our family and we have continued to honor it.  We had fun painting our feet to look like the groundhog, painted a groundhog, counted 7 hearts for the groundhog, using a pink bingo dauber to trace the outline of a heart and color the groundhog brown.  We were excited to see the pink play dough to play with today.  We had a great time in our class playing with our friends.

COUPLE OF REMINDERS
Valentines
We will pass out valentines to our friends at school on Tuesday, February 9, Wednesday February 10 and Thursday February 11.  Emails went out last week with the names of the students for each day.  We will be making Valentine boxes for our valentines to be placed in.   Please do not send in any candy on the valentines you may attach stickers or pencils but NO CANDY!

REGISTRATION
Currently, our preschool program is completely filled. If you have yet to register your child for preschool next year, please come talk to me so we may discuss the next steps you need to make for your child next year at Zion.  Our ELP (formerly PDO) still has openings but is beginning to fill up as well, if your child will be attending ELP next year, I urge you to register soon.  We at Zion are completely overwhelmed with how fast our Early Childhood Program has filled up!

I HOPE YOU ENJOY VIEWING THE BLOG TODAY AND SEEING ALL THE EXCITING THINGS WE DID!  AS ALWAYS YOU MAY EMAIL ME AT HHORN@ZIONHARVESTER.ORG WITH ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS.

Free Choice/Centers
We spent the morning listening to music by Michael Buble and learning about the Groundhog!  We found out that the groundhog did not see his shadow so that means we should have an early spring!!  We had fun playing with different things in the classroom and continuing to work on our sharing and caring skills with our friends.

THE RETURN OF PLAY DOUGH
We had so much fun using heart shaped cut outs to make different designs with the pink play dough.  Play dough is a great way for us to work on our sensory and fine motor skills.   We will have the play dough out here and there over the next month but not every day.  It is so great to play with but so many of my friends will only play with the play dough if it is out so I want them to have the opportunity to explore and experience different areas of the classroom.

Magnet Board
We had some different type of magnet letters to play with today on the magnet board.  Even though many of our students do not know their letters yet, they are being exposed to them by looking at them and seeing how they are formed and made.

Sensory Table
We currently have rice in our sensory table.  We have been having a really hard time keeping the rice in the table and making sure it does not get dumped on the floor or moving to other areas of the classroom.

Stickers
Today we used different colored stickers to complete a Groundhog themed paper. We had to match the colored stickers to the right colors of flowers on the paper.  This helped us with our fine motor skills, matching skills and color identification.

Circle Time
We read one more book about the groundhog and got ready for lunch!
