Week 5 Day 2 of Mrs. Horn’s Class
So it is official summer is over and I believe cooler temps are
on the way! Which means we are starting to gear up for the season of Fall. We will continue learning about apples and
other things that happen during the Fall.
I feel that it is important for little ones to have a sense of time and
talking about holidays and seasons allows our little ones to be able to follow
what goes on during what time of year.
We will be doing lots of fall like activities over the next couple of
weeks and months. Please read below what
we were busy doing today. We added some
more centers this week and will continue to do so as the month progresses
Jesus Time: Today we practiced singing our Bible song that
we start Jesus Time with and we learned about the second day of creation. We
talked about how God on the second day created the water and the sky and after
his creation he said this is good. After we read our Bible Story we
practiced singing the song THE BIBLE and Jesus Loves Me. We ended our
Jesus time in prayer. When we get ready to pray we talk about how we need
to fold our hands, bow our heads and listen. These are things you can practice
with your child at home. Here is this week’s special prayer. Dear God, Thank you for creating the sky and the water in your name
we pray. Amen. During our center time we worked on
the second day of creation. We had to
glue two clouds for the sky (this also helped us with the number we are
studying about this month as well) and then we used a blue crayon to color the
water. Our creation books will come
home at the end our study of the Bible Story Creation. Some of my
friends did this on Tuesday so they didn’t do this today. When we study the other Bible Stories this
year we will have a different activity each day for the story.
Number: We continued our study of the number two. We
worked on holding up two fingers that will help us build our finger and hand
muscles. We practiced counting 1-2 and found 2 red apples to count today. We
also spotted 2 butterflies on our number 2 that we look at as we are learning
about it. During our center time we used
scissors to cut strips of red paper that we then used to create the number 2
with.
Shape: Our shape for the month of September is the OCTAGON.
This is a hard shape but we talked about how it looks like a stop sign and when
we see this shape we need to STOP! We talked about how it has eight sides
and how we can see this shape when we are driving in our cars with our moms and
dads. Help your child this week when you are driving look for an
OCTAGON!
Letter: We continue to work on learning the ABC song and
today we continued our letter journey with the letter B. We looked at
different pictures of the letter B and the sounds the letter B makes.
During center time we colored a picture of a Baseball Bat and Baseball with the
letter B on it. We also worked on the first two pages in our Alphabet
books. The letter A and B were done
today. These alphabet books will be coming
home at the end of the school year.
Color: We are studying about the color red this month. We
had fun identifying different objects on our RED Color Board. During our
Center time we painted Red balloons that we will be adding to our scene on the
wall in our classroom. Be sure and check
out all the fun things we have been painting and working on for our wall. We also used the bingo daubers to decorate
red apples that will be added to our wall with a basket of red apples.
Music and Movement: We had fun today doing a variety of
different songs during music and movement.
We did Bringing Home A Baby
Bumble Bee, The Itsy Bitsy Spider and Five Days Old. Along with Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
Outside Time: We did not go outside today because of the
rain earlier today so we had fun in the commons today with our other PDO
friends and then we went for a walk around the main school building. Ask your child what they saw in the main
school building today.
We were super active today and we had to work really hard at
sitting down during Morning Meeting, Jesus Time and Circle Time. We also had to have lots of reminders that we
sit on our bottoms and stay in our chairs when we are having snack and
lunch.
Enjoy the pictures below of our fun day in Room C!
When I came in this morning and flipped my daily devotion to a new page this was the devotion for today and thought I would share it with you all. Last year Zion experienced lots of ups and downs with families and faculty and we learned the true power of prayer and it is amazing what happens when we pray and listen to GOD! I pray daily for each of students and their families. You are truly all a blessing and we are thankful and blessed to have you all part of Zion!
Free Choice Time
Today with it being wet and dreary outside made it feel like a Michael Buble type of morning! So that was our music selection today. We had a lot of fun exploring around the classroom. Some of my friends had a hard time sharing so we spent a lot of time talking about sharing our toys and not taking them from our friends if they are still playing with them.
Puzzles
We always have puzzles available for our friends to solve and play with. Puzzles are a great way to work on our problem solving skills and spatial awareness.
Kate was super excited that she found two red cars that were a match!
Ella really enjoyed looking at the different books in the reading center today.
The play house was a hot toy item today and it was fun to watch my friends make families and see what they like to do.
The art easel was another popular place today that we had to work on sharing and taking turns at.
Kate was busy exercising with a Jump Rope!
The sensory table still has sand in it and makes us still feel like we are at the beach!
Painting a Red Balloon

We decided Mr. Weather Frog needed his umbrella and rain shoes today.
Our pattern for the month of September is red apples, green apples. Next week a new center will be added and we will be making our own patterns with apples.

We were invited into Miss Kirby's Classroom today to see the caterpillars in her room. Miss Kirby use to work down in the Sonshine Center last year as the new preschool teacher. She has moved to the main building and we miss seeing her smiling face so we stopped for a visit and we found some really neat caterpillars! We were invited to come back when they have become butterflies. This is one of the other very unique aspects of our amazing school, we are able to visit other classrooms and expose our young ones to all that Zion has to offer.

Our schedule was a little different today since we went to the commons to play so we finished our Jesus Time and then read a silly book about Waking Up in the morning.
