Week 4 Day 1

Week 4 Day 1 of Mrs. Horn’s Class

It is so hard to believe that we are into the month of September.  With that being said that means that our toys have been switched out and we are starting our first theme “APPLES” over the course of the next month we will do different activities about apples.  Today was an introduction to apples.  We also had the opportunity to go to the “big school” and play in the commons for a few minutes.  Below are detailed pictures of our journey to the commons.  We went today because it was so hot by 10:00.  We did play outside for about 15 minutes.  As we move into the month of September this means new things will be introduced and we will be adding more centers.  This year we are taking more of play approach we will still focus on our centers but we will be spending time developing our social skills and how to interact with others and respect each other’s space and toys.

Jesus Time:  Today we practiced singing our Bible song that we start Jesus Time with and we learned about the first two days of creation. We talked about how God created the light and the dark on the first day and on the second day he created the water and the sky.  After we read our Bible Story we practiced singing the song THE BIBLE and Jesus Loves Me.  We ended our Jesus time in prayer.  When we get ready to pray we talk about how we need to fold our hands, bow our heads and listen. These are things you can practice with your child at home.  Here is this week’s special prayer. During our center time we worked on the first day in our creation book as we cut yellow and black paper to signify the light and the dark.  This was some of our friends first time to use scissors and we all did a great job using them. Our creation books will come home at the end our study of the Bible Story Creation.
Dear God, Thank you for creating the light and the dark and for sky and water. In your name we pray.   Amen.

Number:  We started our study of the number 2. Today we looked at the number two and practiced holding up two fingers.  We practiced counting 1-2 and clapping our hands two times, stomping our feet two times, turning around two times and waving our hands two times.  We also practiced counting two cars.

Shape: Our shape for the month of September is the OCTAGON.  This is a hard shape but we talked about how it looks like a stop sign and when we see this shape we need to STOP!  We talked about how it has eight sides and how we can see this shape when we are driving in our cars with our moms and dads.  Help your child this week when you are driving look for an OCTAGON!

Letter:  We continue to work on learning the ABC song and today we started our letter journey with the letter A.  We looked at different pictures of the letter A and the sounds the letter a makes.  We also discovered some of our friends names start with the letter A!    This year we will make an Alphabet book that will come home at the end of the school year.

Color:  Red is the color we will be learning and studying about during the month of September.  Today we took a little time finding the color red in our room and identifying different objects on our RED Color Board.  When we were done learning about the color red we spent some time during center time painting a bird red that will be added to our scene on the wall.

Music and Movement:  We only had time for a few songs today, because our time walking and learning the rules to go to the commons.  So we sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and The Wheels on the Bus.

Outside Time:  Well the St. Louis Heat has returned so this week we will do some playing in the commons and playing a little outside.  With the extreme heat we do not want to take any chances of our little ones becoming over heated, sunburned or dehydrated.  Please be sure your child is dressed for the weather appropriately and that they have plenty of fluids to drink.

Your children are truly a blessing and I am thoroughly enjoying my time with them learning about them and growing with them.  Enjoy looking at our day through pictures.

Free Choice
Today we continued to listen to a variety of classical music during our free choice time.  We had a lot of fun exploring and playing with new toys that were in the classroom.  The toys are exchanged out every few weeks to keep our interest and allow us to have new experiences.

Some of us felt like it was Monday to us!  Carson told me he was just plain tired!

We had fun exploring new cars and playing with the car mat.

New red play dough was brought out today and we had fun creating and learning about to make all different types of shapes with the play dough.

Emma discovered our old Disney alphabet that was made into a book.  Mrs. Wegener and our friends had fun looking through our book.

New puzzles to try out and discover and figure out.

Olivia  had the feeling it felt like it was a Monday too, but it is Tuesday.

Painting A Red Bird

Imaginative Play

Morning Meeting
Happy Tuesday!

We read a book about our favorite Clifford when he was a puppy and went apple picking. It was fun to listen to the story because it was on a CD.

Transition Time
Today we had to put an apple in our basket when our named was called.

Heading To Wash Hands for SNACK!!

Reminder that all drinks need to be in a thermos or a sippy cup.  Snacks need to be something you know your child will eat and is peanut free

 Jesus Time
Today we talked about how God created the light and the dark on day 1 and on day 2 he created the sky and water.

Transiton Heading to the Commons
We lined up by Mrs. Horn asking how old we are as we wait our turn to stand in line!  Check out this great line!

First stop is the colored circles outside the sonshine center.  We counted 9 friends today so that is the magic number we need to have every time we stop on our way to the commons.

Stopping at the top of the steps to enter the early childhood wing

Right inside the early childhood wing standing on the wall to make sure we have nine friends.  We then had to be very quiet as walked through the hallway and we needed to stay behind Mrs. Horn.

Standing outside the commons we stop to count all 9 of our friends and then we are off to play with our other friends from PDO!

Getting ready to leave the commons
We had to find a spot on the line and wait our turn to leave the commons.

Outside the commons we stand on the wall and count all 9 of our friends
At the beginning of the early childhood wing counting our nine friends and we talked about keeping our hands to ourselves and not touching the art work that our preschool and kindergarten friends have worked so hard on.

Walking in the hallway checking out what is on the wall and what is going on in our preschool classrooms.

Final stop in the early childhood wing is the wall where we count our friends again

We head outside stop on the wall of the Sonshine Center and count our friends.

We then head outside to play

Circle Time
We read (sang) this book of song we know so very well.  We loved reading and seeing all the different animals in our story

Apple Matching Game
This is a new activity that we will incorporate into our circle time as the school year progress.  Today we were each given an apple and we had to match the apple to the right color basket.  Some weeks it will be a game some weeks it could be flannel board story or a finger play.

Center Time
 Creation Story Book

We had fun playing with apple letters on our magnet board.

Music & Movement

Final book for the day was about what is red to tie into our color of the month the color RED

Transition Time
We had to wait for our name to be called and then we had to find our apple and take it off the basket and find a Mickey Mouse to stand on.

Lunch Time
A gentle reminder that all drinks need to be in a spill proof cup or thermos.  Juice boxes are ok as long as your child does not squeeze them to hard.  We had lots of spills to clean up from drinks that were not in spill proof cups and thermos.  Also, please remember to pack things that you know your child will eat.  We had quite a few friends today who had things that they didn't seem to like or never had before.

A great day we had in our classroom we are working on learning our boundaies and playing hard and learning new skills each day.  Have a great day and look forward to seeing you all later this week!

God's Blessings.
