Week 4 Day 2 of Mrs. Horn’s Class
A new month and we had our first early release day and it
went off with out any problems and we had a great start to our new month. Two of our friends were out sick so we had a
really small group today. A new month means that our toys have been switched
out and we are starting our first theme “APPLES” over the course of the next
month we will do different activities about apples. Today was an introduction to apples. As we move into the month of September this
means new things will be introduced and we will be adding more centers. This year we are taking more of play approach
we will still focus on our centers but we will be spending time developing our
social skills and how to interact with others and respect each other’s space
and toys.
Jesus Time: Today we practiced singing our Bible song
that we start Jesus Time with and we learned about the first two days of
creation. We talked about how God created the light and the dark on the first
day and on the second day he created the water and the sky. After we read our Bible Story we practiced
singing the song THE BIBLE and Jesus Loves Me.
We ended our Jesus time in prayer.
When we get ready to pray we talk about how we need to fold our hands,
bow our heads and listen. These are things you can practice with your child at
home. Here is this week’s special
prayer. During our center time we worked on the first day in our creation book
as we cut yellow and black paper to signify the light and the dark. This was some of our friends first time to
use scissors and we all did a great job using them. Our creation books will
come home at the end our study of the Bible Story Creation.
Dear God, Thank you for creating the light and the dark and
for sky and water. Please help Isaiah
and Kate feel better. In your name we pray. Amen.
Number: We started our study of the number 2. Today we
looked at the number two and practiced holding up two fingers. We practiced counting 1-2 and clapping our
hands two times, stomping our feet two times, turning around two times and
waving our hands two times. We also
practiced counting two red apples. We also spotted 2 butterflies on our number
2 that we look at as we are learning about it.
Shape: Our shape for the month of September is the OCTAGON. This is a hard shape but we talked about how
it looks like a stop sign and when we see this shape we need to STOP! We talked about how it has eight sides and
how we can see this shape when we are driving in our cars with our moms and
dads. Help your child this week when you
are driving look for an OCTAGON!
Letter: We continue to work on learning the ABC song
and today we started our letter journey with the letter A. We looked at different pictures of the letter
A and the sounds the letter A makes. We
also discovered some of our friends names start with the letter A! This year we will make an Alphabet book
that will come home at the end of the school year.
Color: Red is the color we will be learning and
studying about during the month of September.
Today we took a little time finding the color red in our room and
identifying different objects on our RED Color Board. When we were done learning about the color red
we spent some time during center time painting a flower that will be added to
our scene on the wall.
Music and Movement: We only had time for a few songs
today, because of our early release day.
So we sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Five Days, Old The Wheels on the
Bus and Five Little Ducks
Outside Time: Well
the St. Louis Heat has returned so our outside time was shortened we did not go
to the commons today due to it being an early release day. With the extreme heat we do not want to take
any chances of our little ones becoming over heated, sunburned or
dehydrated. Please be sure your child is
dressed for the weather appropriately and that they have plenty of fluids to
drink.
We had a small group today and our day was not quite as
long, but we packed a lot in and had a lot of fun. I am really looking forward to getting to
know all of my little friends and have already seen so many changes in them and
I am excited to see where the rest of the year leads us.
