National Lutheran’s School
Week is being celebrated this week at Zion where not only is it a great day to
be a Bobcat, but it is great that we are able to attend a school where we are
able to learn about Jesus and all his wonderful teachings. Today was Western Wednesday and some of looked
great in our Western Gear!
We were busy this week
finishing up our studies on the number 6, the shape of a star, the color white
and our mitten pattern. Next week we
will begin learning about a new number, shape, color, pattern and new Jesus
Stories. Our theme will continue about
winter but we will be incorporating Valentine’s Day through out the month of
February.
We did talk more about snow
and finished up our snowmen we started last week. Be sure to check them out on our bulletin
board by the classroom door.
We also during morning
meeting are learning a new prayer to say before we head for snack and lunch it
is called the Superman Prayer, it is to the theme song of “Superman”
Thank you, God for giving us
food
Thank you, God for giving us
food
For the friends that we
meet,
For the food that we eat,
Thank you, God, for giving
us food
Amen!
Ask your child if they
remember any of the new prayer they learned.
Enjoy reading about our day
and viewing the pictures.
Jesus Time: Today we learned about Jesus being baptized….
Mark 1:11
And a voice came from heaven, "You are My Beloved Son;
with you I am well pleased."
God Is Pleased
John the Baptist was a prophet who lived in the wilderness near
Jerusalem. He ate grasshoppers and honey. His clothes were made of camel's
hair, and he always wore a big leather belt. John was very wise. Many people
came to hear him preach. He baptized them in the Jordan River. One day, Jesus
came and asked John to baptize Him. John didn't want to because he knew whom
Jesus was and that He was Holy. "You should baptize me," he said to
Jesus. But Jesus said it was right for John to baptize Him. So John baptized
Jesus in the river. When Jesus rose out of the water, the sky opened and the
Spirit of God, like a dove, came down to Him. At the same time, a voice from
heaven said, "You are my own dear Son. I am very pleased with you."
Jesus invites us to be baptized, too. In Baptism, Jesus washes away our sins and
makes us God's children.
During Center time we painted a picture of a white dove using blue
construction paper, white glue and shaving cream. It was a different way for us to paint today
and we made some really pretty doves!
Number: Today we concluded our study of the number 6. We practiced counting six fingers. We
practiced clapping our hands 6 times, nodding our heads 6 times, stomping our
feet six times, jumping up and down six times and rubbing our tummies six
times. We also counted six snowmen.
Shape: We wrapped up our study of the star
Today we finger-painted a star that we will be hanging up in our
classroom.
Color: We reviewed the
color White. During Morning Meeting we
identified objects that could be white and put them on our color board.
Our center time we used white paint to paint a dove to remind us
of God descending from Heaven to see Jesus when he was baptized.
We used white shaving cream and glue to make a beautiful dove and
we also cut white paper today to make a snowstorm.
Music and Movement: We had fun singing Jesus Loves Me, Twinkle
Little Star, ABC’s. We had fun singing
Bringing Home a Baby Bumblebee, Clapping our Hands and the Wheels on the Bus. We also practiced jumping and counting to 10
Outside Time: We went to the commons for a bit to play it was too
chilly and windy for us little ones to go outside today.
Patterning: We continued to
work on our pattern of Red mittens and Blue Mittens.
During center time we did a pattern of mittens and snowflakes with
stamps. We are really doing well with
our pattering.
Science and Sensory: The
sensory table was filled with a lot of brown rice. We had fun feeling the rice,
picking up the rice, dumping and pouring the rice from scoops to buckets and
back into the table. We are working really hard making sure the rice stays in
the table. This is the last week for the
rice table! It has been fun but it is
time for us to move on to something new.
We finished our snowmen today which led us during center time to
put two eyes, a nose, a mouth, buttons, hats and scarfs on our snowmen. They are all different and unique and look
great!
As a reminder many things will come home over the course of the
month but some things will not as this will be put in your child’s portfolio
that you will get at the end of the school year!
Enjoy the pictures from our day!
Free Choice Play
We listened to music by the Vince Guilardi who wrote the musical score for the Peanut movies. We enjoyed playing in the rice and working on our sharing skills this morning.
. Enjoying a good book in the Buzz Chair!
. Lacing big buttons a great fine motor skill that we continue to work on through out the course of the year.
Puzzles
Puzzles are always offered to the students to do. I feel it is a great way to work on problem solving skills. They are also a great activity to work on sitting in a chair . The puzzles get changed out every month and as the school year progress' the puzzles tend to become a little more challenging.
. Block building is also happening quite a bit more often this semester which is what I love to see. So many different things happening at once. Next month the children will have the opportunity to look at a picture and copy that picture when building with blocks.
. Morning Meeting
. We read this great book today to help us learn more about how to build a snowman. Next week we will begin making our own book on how to build a snowman.
Transition & Snack Time
. Circle Time
We use this time to sing a few songs and read a book and work on our letter sounds. We were running a bit behind today so we sang some songs and then headed to the commons to play
. Commons Play
. Filling the Bird Feeder
We have two bird feeders outside two of our windows so we decided to fill one of them today with bird food to see if we could get any of our bird friends to visit us. If you have any old bird feeders you are not using we would love to have them to hang outside some of our other windows. This activity allowed us to practice our scooping and pouring skills.
. After we came back from the commons we read this book about Bear not feeling well. It allowed us to talk about what we feel like when we are not feeling well and what we like to have when we want to feel better.
. Letter Sounds!
. As we prepare to make our own snowman books we practiced making a snowman on our wipe off board by friends told me what I needed to make our snowman. They did an awesome job!
Center Time
Snowmen Art
Finishing our snowmen that we started last week. Be sure to check out the bulletin board outside our classroom for our awesome snowmen!
. Star Finger Painting
We had left over paint from our snowmen so we used it to make some beautiful stars
. Free Play
During center time we have an opportunity to continue exploring the classroom. By this time in the day the children are more comfortable in the clasroom and I usually observe more imaginitive play and interactive play with each other.
. Painting with Shaving Cream and Glue
I try through out the year to allow for many different painting experiences and how we paint. I feel it allows us to see how it feels to paint with different things. Today it was sticky to paint with the shaving cream and glue. We had some pretty doves when we were done.
.Patterning
. This was interesting to watch both Jack and Avery wanted to draw on the easel but one wanted to wipe off their creation and the other didn't so the compromise was for us to draw a line down the middle with their names at top and they could each do what they wanted on their side.
. Cutting With Scissors
. Music and Movement
. One Final Book for the day about a snowman
. Transition & Lunch Time
. An over all great day in Room C! I look forward to seeing everyone next week as we begin to explore new toys, sensory table and themes! Have a wonderful weekend.
