Welcome to a Warm Winter
day! I hope everyone enjoyed the three-day
weekend and you all were able to get outside and enjoy this beautiful weather
that God graced us with. We were so
excited to be able to go outside and play on our playground today. It is nice for us to have access right out
our classroom door to the play ground which is a great help with classroom
management as we don’t have to build in time walking from one place to the next!
Today was a bit of a
challenge for some of my friends with keeping our hands to our selves and using
our listening ears. We had several
friends that were “testing the waters” so to speak. We had a brief conversation about how it “hurts”
Mrs. Horn’s heart when her friends are not nice to each other or chose not to
listen. We talked about how important it
is to use our listening ears at all times and we need to respect our friend’s
personal space.
Jesus Time: Today we learned about Jesus being a young boy and
going to the temple.
Luke 2:
41-50
Every year Jesus' parents went to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover.
When Jesus was 12, they went as usual. When Mary and Joseph started home, they
didn't see Jesus, they thought he was with friends. Late in the day they
realized He wasn't with any of their friends. Mary and Joseph were very worried
and hurried back to Jerusalem, looking for Him all along the way. They were
afraid they had lost Jesus.
When Mary and Joseph found Jesus, He was in the Temple-a place
where God's people went to worship. Twelve-year-old Jesus was talking with some
teachers just like He was one of them. He asked them questions, and He answered
theirs. His mother had a question too. "Son why did you stay behind?
We were worried about you.' Jesus said, "You should have known I
must be where My Father's work is!"
Number: Today we continued our study of the number 6. We practiced counting six fingers. We
practiced clapping our hands 6 times, nodding our heads 6 times, stomping our
feet six times, jumping up and down six times and rubbing our tummies six
times. We also counted six snowmen.
During center time we had to stamp six yellow stars for our
counting books. Our counting books will
be coming home in May.
Shape: The shape of the star is what we will are studying
about during the month of January.
During center time we had to stamp six yellow stars for our
counting books. Our counting books will
be coming home in May.
Color: We continued to
learn about the color White. During
Morning Meeting we identified objects that could be white and put them on our
color board.
Our center time was spent making a snowstorm on blue paper. We
used a q-tip to make a snowstorm. We started making our snowmen today; we
painted the body using different circle sponges.
Music and Movement: We had fun singing Jesus Loves Me, Twinkle
Little Star. We are getting really good
at singing our ABC’s. We sang 5 Little
Ducks and brought back some oldies such as Bringing Home A Baby Bumble Bee and
Head Shoulders Knees and Toes.
Outside Time: We got about
45 minutes of fresh air today, which was wonderful.
Patterning: We continued to
work on our pattern of Red mittens and Blue Mittens.
During Center time we made our own pattern of red mitten, blue
mitten they are hanging in our hallway be sure to check them out and see all
the hard work our friends did
Science and Sensory: The
sensory table was filled with a lot of brown rice. We had fun feeling the rice,
picking up the rice, dumping and pouring the rice from scoops to buckets and
back into the table.
Pre-Writing Skills: Using a
marker to follow a line from point A to point B.
Today during center time we practiced doing a dot to dot with
number 1-10 and discovering we made a star!
We then used our crayons to color the star.
Cutting Skills:
We practiced cutting white paper for a group project we are doing
for National Lutheran Schools Week. We
are making a winter scene.
As a reminder many things will come home over the course of the
month but some things will not as this will be put in your child’s portfolio
that you will get at the end of the school year!
Enjoy the pictures from our day!
