Our Thursday was better than
our Tuesday! We had fun learning more
about how to build a snowman. Next week
we will finish building our snowmen. A
few of my friends finished theirs today and they are hanging on the bulletin board
outside our door. To wrap our studies of
snowmen we will each be making a book next week on how to build a snowman. We are doing really well with the order we
need to build our snowman it is so neat to watch my friends grow and learn a
little bit each class period!
We are working really hard
on using our listening ears. This is
something that we work on all year long but sometimes we need to work a little
harder on this skill. PDO is designed to
help your child become acclimated to a school environment as well as becoming
exposed to a lot of different experiences.
We also work on a lot of self-help skills such as trying to put on our
own coat, hang up our coat when we come back into the classroom. These are not things that need to master but
be working towards doing on their own!
Enjoy reading about our day
and viewing the pictures below. Remember
this Sunday from 1-3 is our Open House if you are looking to having your child
attend preschool here in the fall or not sure and want to see our school I
strongly urge you to come and have a tour of the school it is a great
opportunity to meet the preschool teachers as well as other faculty members,
you are able to ask questions and see the classrooms your child will be in. If you have anyone you know that is looking
for a Parent’s Day Out Program, Preschool, Kindergarten or Elementary school,
please invite him or her to our open house on Sunday. If they are unable to attend they can set up
a time for a tour. I will be on campus
on Sunday giving tours I look forward to seeing many of you and have you all in
my prayers that you will consider choosing Zion as a place your child to
attend. It is always a great day to be a
BOBCAT!!!!
Jesus Time: Today we learned about Jesus being a young boy and
going to the temple.
Luke 2:
41-50
Every year Jesus' parents went to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover.
When Jesus was 12, they went as usual. When Mary and Joseph started home, they
didn't see Jesus, they thought he was with friends. Late in the day they realized
He wasn't with any of their friends. Mary and Joseph were very worried and
hurried back to Jerusalem, looking for Him all along the way. They were afraid
they had lost Jesus.
When Mary and Joseph found Jesus, He was in the Temple-a place
where God's people went to worship. Twelve-year-old Jesus was talking with some
teachers just like He was one of them. He asked them questions, and He answered
theirs. His mother had a question too. "Son why did you stay behind?
We were worried about you.' Jesus said, "You should have known I
must be where My Father's work is!"
Number: Today we continued our study of the number 6. We practiced counting six fingers. We
practiced clapping our hands 6 times, nodding our heads 6 times, stomping our
feet six times, jumping up and down six times and rubbing our tummies six
times. We also counted six snowmen.
During center time we had to stamp six yellow stars for our
counting books. Our counting books will
be coming home in May.
Shape: The shape of the star is what we will are studying
about during the month of January.
During center time we had to stamp six yellow stars for our
counting books. Our counting books will
be coming home in May. We also used our watercolor paints to paint a picture of
a star.
Color: We continued to
learn about the color White. During
Morning Meeting we identified objects that could be white and put them on our
color board.
Our center time was spent making a snowstorm on blue paper. We
used a q-tip to make a snowstorm. We
also made snowmen for our winter scene. We started making our snowmen today; we
painted the body using different circle sponges.
Music and Movement: We had fun singing Jesus Loves Me, Twinkle
Little Star. We are getting really good
at singing our ABC’s. We sang 5 Little
Ducks and brought back some oldies such as Wheels on the Bus, Head Shoulders
Knees and Toes, and I am Bringing Home a Baby Bumblebee.
Outside Time: The cold weather returned so we were unable to go
outside today and play but we did walk to the commons area and play with our
friends from the other PDO classes. We
also took a walk around the school and got to see lots of artwork in the
hallway.
Patterning: We continued to
work on our pattern of Red mittens and Blue Mittens.
During Center time we made our own pattern of red hats and blue hats
they are hanging in our hallway be sure to check them out and see all the hard
work our friends did
Science and Sensory: The
sensory table was filled with a lot of brown rice. We had fun feeling the rice,
picking up the rice, dumping and pouring the rice from scoops to buckets and
back into the table. We are working really hard making sure the rice stays in
the table
Pre-Writing Skills: Using a
marker to follow a line from point A to point B.
Today during center time we practiced doing a dot to dot with
number 1-18 and discovering we made a snowman!
We also used bingo daubers to decorate a snowflake.
Letter I: Today we talked
about the letter I and some words that begin with the letter I such as
Incredible, Ice, Igloo, Ice Cream, inch and Iguana.
As a reminder many things will come home over the course of the
month but some things will not as this will be put in your child’s portfolio
that you will get at the end of the school year!
Enjoy the pictures from our day!
Free Choice Play
How To Train a Dragon Soundtrack was our choice of music to listen to today. It is all instrumental so it was a nice change of pace for us to hear!
Sensory Table Fun
. Block Building
It has been very neat to watch the students since we have come back to school build with the blocks and the big DuPLO blocks. These were always made accessible to the students first semester but not much interest was shown in them, but since Christmas they have really had a lot of fun building with them.
. Mrs. Wegner and her friends reading a book! They love for her to read to them I think about 50% of the books in our reading center were read this week by Mrs. Wegner. This is something else that has changed since first semester they love to during free choice play have Mrs. Wegner read to them. The amount of books they look at has also increased.
. Cooperative learning as a group works on a tough puzzle together.
Race Track Fun
Each month I change out the toys in our room so that the children are given the opportunity to explore, learn and play with new things. I am not always sure what will be a big hit and what won't be a big hit. The Race Track HUGE HUGE hit!
. Another area that has become extremely popular is the housekeeping/kitchen area we have lots of pretend play taking place and it is neat to watch them cook Mrs. Wegner and Mrs. Horn some delicious and interesting cuisine! I think Mrs. Wegner drank a lot of fluids today if I remember correctly!
.Group Art Project
We created a winter scene that will be show cased in our Church Welcome Center to help celebrate National Lutheran Schools Week. After I take it down on Sunday I will display it in our classroom. Everyone did a great job with this project.
. Morning Meeting
. Transition & Snack Time
Today we told Mrs. Horn what we had on that was White to help us wrap up our week of wearing something white.
. A quick peek at how we do washing hands and potty training.
. Commons Play
. Hello Landry
. Center Time
Stamping 6 stars for our number books that will come home in May.
. Bingo Daubers
Today we had to match the correct color to the right bingo dauber.
. Connecting the Dots
Today we did a connect the dots activity to help with our counting skills, pre-writing skills and fine motor skills. When we were done we were surprised to see we made a snowman!
. Artist at work!
. This is another toy that is a huge hit and has been from the beginning of the year. I am glad to see it get some great use since my own children didn't seem to care for it.
. Veterinarian in training
. More Reading and looking at books
. Mrs. Wegner at it again!
. Painting a Star
. Patterning
Be sure to check the hallway for our patterning work
. Snowman Creation
. Music and Movement
. Clapping our Hands
. We really liked this book about a puppy who got lost in the snow. This story kind of reminded us of our Bible Story today of when Mary and Joseph thought Jesus was lost, but they found him safe and sound in the temple.
. One last story of the day about Miffy getting to play in the snow.
As you can see we had a fun busy day in Room C! We did lots of reading and looking at books today which is always great to see and hear. You can never read enough books and help start that love for reading to early. Take time this weekend to read to your child as well as to worship our lord Jesus Christ. Remember Zion offers church services on Saturday at 5:00 Sunday at 8:00, 9:30 and 11:00! I will be at the 11:00 service maybe I will see some of you there! Blessings to you all on a wonderful warm weekend and I look forward to seeing you all next week!
