Warm Wednesday

Wednesday January 21, 2015

I hope everyone enjoyed the three-day weekend and you all were able to get outside and enjoy this beautiful weather that God graced us with.  We were so excited to be able to go outside and play on our playground today.  It is nice for us to have access right out our classroom door to the play ground which is a great help with classroom management as we don’t have to build in time walking from one place to the next!

We had fun today working on our group project for Lutheran’s Schools week.  We started on a snowman project and also had fun learning more about winter.  Enjoy reading about our day and viewing the pictures.

Jesus Time: Today we learned about Jesus being a young boy and going to the temple.
Luke 2: 41-50

Every year Jesus' parents went to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover. When Jesus was 12, they went as usual. When Mary and Joseph started home, they didn't see Jesus, they thought he was with friends. Late in the day they realized He wasn't with any of their friends. Mary and Joseph were very worried and hurried back to Jerusalem, looking for Him all along the way. They were afraid they had lost Jesus.

When Mary and Joseph found Jesus, He was in the Temple-a place where God's people went to worship. Twelve-year-old Jesus was talking with some teachers just like He was one of them. He asked them questions, and He answered theirs. His mother had a question too. "Son why did you stay behind?  We were worried about you.' Jesus said, "You should have known I must be where My Father's work is!"

Number:  Today we continued our study of the number 6.  We practiced counting six fingers. We practiced clapping our hands 6 times, nodding our heads 6 times, stomping our feet six times, jumping up and down six times and rubbing our tummies six times.  We also counted six snowmen.

During center time we had to stamp six yellow stars for our counting books.  Our counting books will be coming home in May.

Shape:  The shape of the star is what we will are studying about during the month of January.

During center time we had to stamp six yellow stars for our counting books.  Our counting books will be coming home in May.

We also used the bingo daubers to decorate a star.

Color:  We continued to learn about the color White.  During Morning Meeting we identified objects that could be white and put them on our color board.

Our center time was spent making a snowstorm on blue paper. We used a q-tip to make a snowstorm.  We also made snowmen for our winter scene. We started making our snowmen today; we painted the body using different circle sponges.

Music and Movement: We had fun singing Jesus Loves Me, Twinkle Little Star.  We are getting really good at singing our ABC’s.  We sang 5 Little Ducks and brought back some oldies such as Wheels on the Bus, Head Shoulders Knees and Toes and Jumping and Counting to 10

Outside Time:  We got about 45 minutes of fresh air today, which was wonderful.

Patterning:  We continued to work on our pattern of Red mittens and Blue Mittens.

During Center time we made our own pattern of red hats and blue hats they are hanging in our hallway be sure to check them out and see all the hard work our friends did

Science and Sensory:  The sensory table was filled with a lot of brown rice. We had fun feeling the rice, picking up the rice, dumping and pouring the rice from scoops to buckets and back into the table. We are working really hard making sure the rice stays in the table

Pre-Writing Skills:  Using a marker to follow a line from point A to point B.

Today during center time we practiced doing a dot to dot with number 1-10 and discovering we made a star!  We then used our crayons to color the star.

We also used bingo daubers to decorate a person dressed for winter.

Letter I:  Today we talked about the letter I and some words that begin with the letter I such as Incredible, Ice, Igloo, Ice Cream, inch and Iguana.

During Center Time we worked on becoming familiar with the Letter I so we had the opportunity to color a picture some Ice Cream.  The majority of my friends love to eat vanilla ice cream

As a reminder many things will come home over the course of the month but some things will not as this will be put in your child’s portfolio that you will get at the end of the school year!

Enjoy the pictures from our day!

Free Choice Play
Today we listened to music from Two Piano Guys.  We had fun playing in the sensory table and doing puzzles and working on the magnet board with letter Magnets.

.The race track has been a real hit with all my friends this month

Rice Table
This is an area where we are able to work on pouring, scooping and transferring from one container to the next. Some of my friends have enjoyed experimenting with the cars in the rice to see what they will do.

.Amelia worked really hard at getting the rings in the correct order.

.Kate's beautiful masterpiece.

LETTER PUZZLES
These have become a favorite all of a sudden with all my friends. They enjoy getting them out taking the letters apart and  building tracks and roads with them.  When we are done we scoop them up put them on the table and match the letters up.  It is a great way to promote letter recognition and sound as well as we are working on color identification and problem solving.

.Block Building
This is a great way for us to work on our fine motor skills as we connect the blocks together and see how many we can get together before they fall over.  We are using our counting skills and also able to work on color identification as well.

.Morning Meeting

.This book was about the Three Wise men following the star and went to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star which we sing every day in class.

Transition & Snack Time
As the students listened for their names to bring their mitten to put on the snow man they also had to tell me something "White" they had on today.  Everyone had something white on
