National Lutheran’s School
Week is being celebrated this week at Zion where not only is it a great day to
be a Bobcat, but it is great that we are able to attend a school where we are
able to learn about Jesus and all his wonderful teachings. Today was Wacky Tacky and some of us did a
great job looking Wacky and Tacky! Mrs.
Horn was unable to let go of her OCD to participate in Wacky Tacky Tuesday, but
Mrs. Wegner looked awesome! As we had
fun seeing how silly some of our friends in our classroom looked we were able
to also see how silly some of the bigger kids looked as well.
Room C had a rough go at it
today. We had to do a lot of talking
about keeping our hands to ourselves and how it is so important that we listen
not only to Mrs. Horn and Mrs. Wegner, but we need to listen to our friends too
because sometimes they are telling us to stop or they don’t like something we
are doing. We also talked a lot about
sharing our toys and how we need to use walking feet in the classroom and save
our running feet for outside. Speaking
of outside we did get to go outside for about 30 minutes today which was great
to help us get some fresh air and exercise.
We continue to work on our self help skills such as washing our hands
and drying them off, putting our snack items in the bucket or trash, attempting
to put on our own coats, hats and gloves.
We did not do as many
centers and activities today due to time and some of our friends not listening
and cooperating but we did talk more about snow and finished up our snowmen we
started last week. Be sure to check them
out on our bulletin board by the classroom door.
We also during morning
meeting are learning a new prayer to say before we head for snack and lunch it
is called the Superman Prayer, it is to the theme song of Superman”
Thank you, God for giving us
food
Thank you, God for giving us
food
For the friends that we
meet,
For the food that we eat,
Thank you, God, for giving
us food
Amen!
Ask your child if they
remember any of the new prayer they learned.
Enjoy reading about our day
and viewing the pictures.
Jesus Time: Today we learned about Jesus being baptized….
Mark 1:11
And a voice came from heaven, "You are My Beloved Son;
with you I am well pleased."
God Is Pleased
John the Baptist was a prophet who lived in the wilderness near
Jerusalem. He ate grasshoppers and honey. His clothes were made of camel's
hair, and he always wore a big leather belt. John was very wise. Many people
came to hear him preach. He baptized them in the Jordan River. One day, Jesus
came and asked John to baptize Him. John didn't want to because he knew whom
Jesus was and that He was Holy. "You should baptize me," he said to
Jesus. But Jesus said it was right for John to baptize Him. So John baptized
Jesus in the river. When Jesus rose out of the water, the sky opened and the
Spirit of God, like a dove, came down to Him. At the same time, a voice from
heaven said, "You are my own dear Son. I am very pleased with you."
Jesus invites us to be baptized, too. In Baptism, Jesus washes away our sins
and makes us God's children.
During Center time we painted a picture of a white dove.
Number: Today we continued our study of the number 6. We practiced counting six fingers. We
practiced clapping our hands 6 times, nodding our heads 6 times, stomping our
feet six times, jumping up and down six times and rubbing our tummies six
times. We also counted six snowmen.
Shape: The shape of the star is what we will are studying
about during the month of January.
Color: We continued to
learn about the color White. During
Morning Meeting we identified objects that could be white and put them on our
color board.
Our center time we used white paint to paint a dove to remind us
of God descending from Heaven to see Jesus when he was baptized.
Music and Movement: We had fun singing Jesus Loves Me, Twinkle
Little Star, ABC’s. We also did Hands
are For Clapping and Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony finger exercise. We missed the rest of our Music and Movement
time because we had a really hard time cleaning up today.
Outside Time: We went to the commons for a bit to play, took a
walk around the school where we saw lots of cool art work and then we went
outside to play for about 30 minutes.
Patterning: We continued to
work on our pattern of Red mittens and Blue Mittens.
Science and Sensory: The
sensory table was filled with a lot of brown rice. We had fun feeling the rice,
picking up the rice, dumping and pouring the rice from scoops to buckets and
back into the table. We are working really hard making sure the rice stays in
the table.
We finished our snowmen today which led us during center time to
put two eyes, a nose, a mouth, buttons, hats and scarfs on our snowmen. They are all different and unique and look
great!
As a reminder many things will come home over the course of the
month but some things will not as this will be put in your child’s portfolio
that you will get at the end of the school year!
Enjoy the pictures from our day!
Free Choice Play
We listened to the Frozen Soundtrack this morning.
Block Building
We have really enjoyed building with the blocks this month. We maybe have some future architects on our hands. Building with blocks is a great way to promote so many areas of learning, math, spatial awareness, heavy light, shape recognition, color recognition, counting, creativity and imagination.
.Puzzles
Puzzles are always available to my friends as well. We have really been doing great at putting them together. New puzzles will be introduced next month! It is a great way to work on problem solving skills.
.Race Track
Last week for the race track in our classroom we will have new toys next week to play and explore with.
.Sensory Table
This month Mrs. Wegener has gotten a work out cleaning up all the rice off the floor. We have loved playing in the sensory table and it will be exciting to see what is offered to us next month in our sensory table to play with. Today we had a lot of rice on the floor and ended up closing the table early. Two friends helped Mrs. Wegner out by sweeping up all the rice that got onto the floor.
.Art Easel
This is always available too. It allows the children to work on their pre writing skills, literacy skills as well as their imagination and creativity.
.The Climber
It has been great to have the climber in our classroom this past month but it will be gone next month too. It will be replaced with something new and exciting to explore and play with.
.Morning Meeting
.Last week for the number 6, the shape of the star and the color white. Next month new number, shape, color and pattern will be introduced.
