Week 2 of with Mrs. Horn

Week 2 of PDO with Mrs. Horn

Welcome to week 2 of PDO!  For some of our friends today was their first day of school and all of my friends did great today.  We had very few tears in the morning and it was another awesome way to start our day.  Many of my friends came in and were ready to play and explore.  We did lots of playing today.  As the school year progress we will incorporate more into our day each week something new will be added to our routine.  For now just becoming familiar with the classroom, learning our boundaries, becoming familiar with our teachers and friends is a lot for us to take in and process.

Jesus Time:  Today we talked about what we will be doing our Jesus time and looked at the Bible again.  We practiced singing the Read the Bible song that we start each Jesus Time with, we also started learning the song THE BIBLE and we continued to work on singing Jesus Loves Me.  This year Zion’s School theme is Blessed to Serve, so today we talked about our new Early Childhood Director Mrs. Haun and what a blessing she is to Zion and the Early Childhood program.  So our first service project today was to make welcome cards for Mrs. Haun.  We closed our Jesus time with an echo prayer…today’s prayer was:
Dear God, Thank you for my friends, school and teachers.  Amen.

Number:  We continued our study of the number one today.   During morning meeting we practiced holding up one finger, counting one, clapping our hands one time, stomping our feet one time, jumping up and down one time.  We had fun patting our knees, rubbing our tummies one time.

Shape:  We continued to talk about the shape of the square.  Today we counted that a square has four equal sides.  Some of my friends did a great job finding squares in our classrooms.  During our center time we used a square stamp-to-stamp blue squares inside a square.

Letter:  Today we practiced singing our ABC's and when we were getting ready to line up for snack, lunch and outside time we had to listen for our name and what the first letter in our name was.  We also looked at all the different letters on the wall today for the ABC songs.  Some of our friends were able to remember the first letter of their name!  During our center time we colored a picture of the Alphabet with crayons.

Color:  We are learning about the color blue this month.  During our morning meeting we identified different blue objects and.

Music and Movement:  We had a lot of fun during this time of the day.  We sang Shake your Body Down, Five Little Ducks, Clap Your Hands, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Bringing Home a Baby Bumblebee, The Wheels on the Bus and Jumping and Counting

Outside Time:  We were able to get outside and enjoy the nice weather again today for about 40 minutes.

Enjoy looking at what your child did in the pictures below.  I pray that all your children had a great time today and that they are enjoying coming to school!

Free Choice
We love playing in the sensory table.  The sand from the end of the school year is still in there.  We had a great time pouring, scooping and feeling the sand.  We are working on keeping the sand in the table.

Our wipe off board is always open and a great way to work on our writing skills and our creativity skills.

Learning how to play together.

Our magnet board is always a fun place to work at as well.  There are different magnets offered through out the year.  Right now we are working on dressing Minnie Mouse.

We love to play in the kitchen area.

Play Dough Fun!
Play dough is another way to work on our hand muscles as well our sensory skills.

Oh Miss Julija you are so silly!  Love your blue eyebrows!

Puzzles
There is always a wide variety of puzzles for my friends to solve.

Morning Meeting
This is the time of day we come together as a class and learn about the calendar, shape, color, number and letters.

Our blue color board

Our ABC's on the wall

Our Story for Morning Meeting.  It was a great pairing for us just starting school and to talk about the things we do in our school like our friends in the book did.

Transition
To get ready for snack each child was given a person with their name on it.  When their name was called they came up and put it on our board, then found a Mickey Mouse to stand on until all of our friends are ready to go and wash their hands.

Standing in line waiting to wash our hands!

Snack Time
After we wash our hands we head back to our classroom for our delicious snacks.

Jesus Time
After snack we will always have Jesus time and we will sing some Bible Songs and then always end our time with a word of prayer.

Transition Time
After our Jesus Time we will typically head outside and play with our friends.  Today we had to listen for our name to go and line up on a Mickey Mouse.

Outside Play

Circle Time
After our outside time we will come in a wash our hands and faces and come back to the classroom and listen to a story and do another large group activity.

This book was a favorite today many of my friends told me that they had this book at home and were eager to read it and show me their favorite parts!

Center Time
This will typically be the time of day where we will have the students come over in small groups and work on some of the areas we discussed in our Morning Meeting.  The room is also opened back up to the children to play and explore.  Each child is called by their name to join Mrs. Wegener or myself at table to work on an activity.

Our First Service Project
Today  we made cards for Mrs. Haun.  We got to pick our color of paper, then with the crayons we got to draws a picture on our card and then we got to pick out some fun stickers to put on our cards.  This helped us talk about thinking of others.  We were also working on pre-writing skills and fine motor skills with peeling the stickers off the paper and placing them on the our pages.

We love Mrs. Wegener and she is always so eager to play with our friends.  Amelia S. today was trying to see how many babies Mrs. Wegner could hold in her arms.  Mrs. Wegener has a great upbeat attitude and always has a smile on her face our friends love her and so do I!

Alphabet Coloring Sheets
Mrs. Wegener helped our friends today color a paper with the alphabet on it.

Squares Squares Squares
We had fun using the blue square shape stamp to stamp squares on our paper.

Music and Movement
This is our last large group activity we do before we close out our day with lunch.  We had so much fun today dancing and singing I love to take lots of pictures during this time!  So Enjoy

Last book of the day we read is one of my favorites and my friends really enjoyed it too.

Transition Time
After we prayed for our lunch we had to listen for our name and when we heard our name we came and took off our person and found a Mickey Mouse to stand on so we could wash our hands for lunch.

Bathroom/Washing Hands
Whenever we go as a whole group to wash hands and use the bathroom.  We line up on the wall and we all stay standing when our name is called we go into the bathroom go potty and wash our hands.  After we are finished we come back out and sit down on the wall and wait for all of our friends to finish.

Lunch Time
Remember to pack things you know your child will eat for lunch.

Another fabulous day in Room C!  I just adore all your children and love watching them play and learn on a daily basis.  Have a wonderful evening and look forward to seeing many of you later this week!
