Day 2 of the First Day of School!

THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!

We had another awesome first day of school!  Many of us were returning for the second year in Mrs. Horn's Class and that made our transition to the start of the school year a great one!  Our new friends to the class did a great job and you would never really know that it was the first day of school for them.

Jesus Time:  Today we spent time looking a picture of Jesus and looked at some pictures in the Bible.  We worked on singing Jesus Loves Me, and the hand motions that go with it.  This is something that we will do every week during Jesus time.  We spent time looking through the Bible of pictures of Jesus.

Number:  We are studying the number one during the month of August.  Today we practiced holding up the number one, clapping one time, stomping our feet one time, jumping up and down one time.  We had a lot of fun counting one!

Shape:  We are studying the shape of the square  this first month of school .  We talked about how it has four sides and often looks like a window.  We looked around the room during morning meeting to see if we could find any squares and we found a few!  During center time we had the opportunity to color a picture of Mr. Square

Letter:  Today we practiced singing our ABC's and when we were getting ready to line up for snack, lunch and outside time we had to listen for our name and what the first letter in our name was.

Color:  We are learning about the color blue this month.  During our morning meeting we identified different blue objects and.  During center time we had the chance to paint a blue flower that will be displayed next week in our classroom.  For our friends that were not at school yesterday they got the chance to chose their favorite color and have their hand painted for a special first day of school hand print activity.

Music and Movement: This is a favorite time of day with my friends and we had fun singing The Wheels on the Bus, Bringing Home a Baby Bumble Bee, Head Shoulders Knees and Toes, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Five Little Ducks and Clap Clap Your Hands .

Outside Time:  We were graced with another beautiful day from God and we were able to get outside for a good 35 minutes playing with friends from the other PDO classes!

We did lots of playing, reading books and having a great time.  Enjoy seeing how your child spent their first day or second day at school!

Today we had to listen for our name to find a Mickey Mouse to stand on. We did a great job lining up and getting ready to wash hands!

.Bathroom and Washing Hands
This is the routine for going to the bathroom and washing hands.  We line up on the wall when we first get there we all stand on the wall.  When our name is called we go into the bathroom to go potty and wash our hands or just wash our hands.  All of our friends that are potty trained or in the process of potty training all go to the bathroom or try.  After a friend is done in the bathroom we go back in the hallway and sit down and wait for our friends to finish.

.Snack Time
We had delicious snacks today and all had fun sitting at the table eating and talking.

.Jesus Time
This year our circle time after snack will be our Jesus Time.  While we are waiting for our friends to finish snack we are to get out a book and look at it quietly.

.Today during Jesus time we looked at the Bible and talked about Jesus and all the amazing stories we will be learning about in our Bible.

.We also read a book about Mickey and Friends going to the Circus.

.Outside Time
We had lots of fun meeting more new friends and playing with all the fun toys outside!

.Center Time
After our outside time we come back in and wash our hands and then have a small circle time where we talk about some of the different things we are going to do during center time.  The classroom is also opened back up for my friends to play in.

.Painting with Blue Paint
Each child will wear a paint shirt when we are doing something messy.  We almost every day we try our best to keep the paint on our hands and paper but there are times that it gets on our clothes.  Today we painted a blue flower, while we were painting my friends and I talked about other things that we know are blue or some of the objects we painted on our blue board.

.Julija, Carson and Joseph checking out the train set that Emma started.

.Joseph decided to see what was happening in the kitchen area and had fun exploring in it.

.Music and Movement
This time of day is dedicated to us moving our bodies and singing songs.  Some days we will get up and move around more and other days not so much it just all depends on how we have done through out the day and if we are tired or energetic!

.Our final book of the day we had a great time identifying the different animals in the book. I was pretty impressed with how many of the animals the students knew.  Ask your child if they saw a picture of a porcupine in the book and if they can say the word.  It is a hard word and they all did a pretty good job at trying to say it.

.Transition Time
Finding a place to stand so we can wash our hands for lunch!

.Lunch Time
As a reminder we are a peanut free facility and all of your children's lunch items need to be things that they can eat on their own.  During lunch time we work on staying in our seat while we are eating keeping our feet in front of us and our food on the table.  We work on these things all year long.

.What a fantastic day we had today.  It was so exciting to meet new friends and to see how much my returning friends have grown not only physically, but in their language skills, social skills and academic skills.  I am really looking forward to an amazing year with your children.  Welcome back and Welcome to Zion and Bobcat Nation!
