First Wednesday in February

Wednesday February 04, 2015

A new month brought lots of new things for our classroom!  We started a new study of the number 7, the shape of a heart, the color pink and the Bible Story of Jesus and his Friends.  Not only did we begin new studies but also our classroom had a complete overhaul of toys!  We had lots of new things to explore and play with.  A puppet show is set up in our classroom as well as a tool bench and lots of neat tools to learn how to play with.  We have big blocks to help us with our stacking, counting and building.  New Hot Pink Play dough to practice making heart shaped cookies and cut outs.  We had some addition to the housekeeping area we had the addition of some more baby dolls, blankets, a baby bed and high chair.   We also have a new dollhouse to play with.  WOW!  We were busy this morning and this is just what we needed to help us recover from the rough week had the week before.  Our classroom was buzzing all morning long with our friends playing, exploring and sharing new toys.

We also during morning meeting continued working on a new prayer to say before we head for snack and lunch it is called the Superman Prayer, it is to the theme song of “Superman”

Thank you, God for giving us food
Thank you, God for giving us food
For the friends that we meet,
For the food that we eat,
Thank you, God, for giving us food
Amen!

We had a few friends missing this week because of illness we pray that they all start to feel better and are able to join us next week.  Please remember if your child has a fever they need to stay home and cannot return till they are fever free fro 24 hours.

Enjoy reading about our day and viewing the pictures.

Jesus Time: This week's Bible story comes from Luke 5 & 6
 Found in our Beginners Bible:

Helpers and Friends
Jesus knows that he had much work to do. He wanted to have some good friends who could help Him. One day Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee. He saw town boats there. Peter and Andrew were fishing from one boat. James and John were mending a net in the other boat. Jesus called to them, "Come and follow me."  And they did.
Later, Jesus passed by a tax office. There was a man there named Matthew. Matthew's job was to take the taxes, the money the people paid to the king. Jesus looked at Matthew.
"Follow me," Jesus said. Matthew got up and followed Jesus. Jesus asked twelve men to be his helpers. Besides Peter, Andrew, James, John, and Matthew, he called Philip, Bartholomew, Simon Thaddeus and Judas.

Number:  Today we started our study of the number seven.  We practice counting to seven with our fingers, finding seven hearts to count. Clapping our hands seven times, jumping up and down seven times.  We also counted seven Mickey Mouse heads.

During our center time we had seven hearts that we had to put a valentine sticker in each of the seven hearts.  As we did this activity we practiced counting to the number seven.

Shape:  We were introduced the shape of a heart.

During our center time we used scissors to cut a strip of pink paper to glue onto the shape of a heart.  These are displayed out in our hallway be sure to stop an take a look at how great our cutting skills are coming along.

Color:  We started our study of the color pink today during morning meeting and we had new images and objects to put on our color board.  Ask your child about what they saw on the color board today.

Our center time was centered around the color pink our number page was done on pink paper, our heart shapes were pink and we did a bingo dauber page of a flower in the shape of hearts with a pink paint dauber.

Music and Movement: We sang Jesus Loves Me, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, The Wheels on the Bus, Five Little Ducks and had fun doing the Silly Dance Contest and Jumping and turning around.

Outside Time: Well February came in cold and windy, so we headed to the commons to play with our friends from the other PDO classrooms.

Patterning:  We started a new pattern to day of pink and purple hearts.  I am really impressed with how well all of my friends are doing with patterning.  They are all in different levels of learning patterns but they are grasping the concepts and that is wonderful to see.

Science and Sensory:  The Sensory table is taking a break and the pink play dough was brought out for us to play with.  We had a lot of fun making cutouts of all different shapes and sizes of hearts.

We are a little behind with our letter study and we are going to play catch up so this week we went back to the letter F to help us get back on track.

We made Fish for our letter book that will be coming home in May.

We also completed our How to Build a Snowman Book today.  These will be coming home next week.

As a reminder many things will come home over the course of the month but some things will not as this will be put in your child’s portfolio that you will get at the end of the school year!

Enjoy the pictures from our day!
