Thankful Thursday

What a great way to end the first week in November.  I love love how all my little friends are adjusting and enjoying our time together.  We have started working on learning about the number 4, the shape of the cross, the color brown and learning about what we are thankful for.  This week our alphabet letter that we focused on was the letter J.  All of our Alphabet books are up to date and we are moving right along with our letters.  We are learning lots of new words this month….Today we worked on saying the words Thanksgiving, Pilgrim, Turkey and Cornucopia.  I am a big believer in learning about Thanksgiving, I feel that it is a holiday that so often gets lost in the shuffle of the excitement of Halloween and the anticipation of Christmas.  There are so many things to be thankful for and we will spend this month talking about be thankful and learning about Thanksgiving.

Enjoy viewing pictures from our day and reading about what all we have been doing.  We have changed our schedule a little bit which has really cut down on some craziness in our classroom.  If you have any questions or concerns at hhorn@zionharvester.org

Free Choice Time
During Free Choice Time today we listen to Autumn classical music by George Winston. We have new toys in our classroom so we spent the morning playing and exploring with new toys.  We also did some painting during this time so we could hang some acorns on our wall.  To help complete our fall scene.

Joseph and Carson were busy looking out the window to see if the rain was going to hold off for us to go outside and play.

Painting
We painted brown acorns today and talked about how squirrels like to store those up for the winter.

Olivia and Mr. Mouse(who lost his overalls) were enjoying some quiet time in the new reading area.

We have had a lot of fun playing in the beans this month.  We are working really hard at keeping them in our sensory table and not having them end up on the floor.

Emma and Reese decided to help us out and cleaned off the chairs this morning.

Future teacher?  Amelia and her penguin friend were reading to some friends.

Water Color Painting
We had fun painting a turkey today and talking about what a turkey says.  We get confused with a rooster so we are working on saying gobble gobble.  We have been busy this week water coloring turkeys and they are all hanging in our hallway be sure and check out our beautiful paintings.

Alphabet Books
We have been busy working in our alphabet books and are up to the letter J.  These books will be coming home at the end of May.

Morning Meeting
Happy Thursday!

Transition Time
Today we placed feathers on the turkey that we painted with our names on them.  This is a great for us to work on learning the letters of our name and to work on waiting our turn and listening and following directions.

Look at this beautiful Turkey we made we did a great job painting our feathers.

Morning Meeting Materials

Calendar for the month of November.  We have different pictures for each day that are associated with Thanksgiving that we will be hearing and learning about.

Mr. Weather Frog is dressed and ready for a typical fall day in the STL.

Our Number, Shape and Color for the month

Our color board was filled with all different things that are brown.  Ask your child if they can tell you any of the things that saw on the color board.  This is a great way to help increase your child's vocabulary

Our November pattern is turkey, pilgrim hat, turkey……..

The Letter J.  Our alphabet book had the picture of a Jelly Bean in it for the letter J.

We read this book about the First Thanksgiving.

Snack Time
Please remember to bring something that is easy for your child to eat and that you know your child will eat.

Outside Time
We saw it was going to rain so we decided to push back our Jesus Time and head outside before the rain came.  We had a great time outside.

Jesus Time/Circle Time
We learned about all the different things that we are thankful for today and read a book about The Thanksgiving Prayer.  This month we are learning about the Five Little Turkeys.

Center Time
Coloring 4 Brown Bears.  We practiced pointing and counting the bears and then using our brown crayon we colored the four bears.  We were able to work on our color of the month and the number of the month, as well as working on our counting and coloring skills.

Cross
Today we used q-tips and 4 different colored ink pads to decorate the shape of a cross. This took so fine motor work as we had to hold the q-tip and place it in the ink and then dab it on the cross.

Music and Movement
We ended our center time a little earlier today so we would not feel so rushed at the end of the day and we had a lot fun doing some music and movement.  We did a lot of fun songs we had not done in a while and some we had….Shake Your Body Down, We are the Dinosaurs, Five Days Old, The Wheels on the Bus, Five Little Ducks and Head Shoulders Knees and Toes.

We ended our music and movement with a book about and Owl who flew through the night and counted things 1-10

Transition to Lunch
We had to undress our turkey and take our feather off.  We had to listen for our name, find our feather and find a Mickey Mouse to stand on to get ready for lunch.

Waiting to go to lunch.

We ended the day on a great note and am truly thankful and blessed for each of my little friends.  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and hope you find time to relax and worship.  Blessings to you all and look forward to another great week in our room next week.
