HAPPY ST PATRICKS DAY A FEW DAYS LATE!

Thursday March 19, 2015

Happy Belated St. Patrick’s Day!  We had a great time in our classroom celebrating St. Patrick’s Day a day late We had fun working with the number 8, rectangles, finishing our Yellow Umbrella project.

It was really wet on our playground today and we had a really hard time using our listening ears today so we did not make it to the commons to play with our friends, but we still did lots of neat things in our classroom.

With warmer weather upon us we will continue all of our studies but we will also be spending a fair amount of time outside it is important that your child is dressed appropriately for the day.  Please make sure appropriate shoes are worn as well, It would be best to put an extra set of shoes and clothes in your child’s backpack to be on the safe side if accidents or if they get muddy occurs.  It is also best if you make sure your child has enough to drink during their time at school.  We will do our best to bring drinks outside when we head out to play.

It was great to have all of our friends back today in our classroom.  It has been quite sometime since all of our friends have been at school.  I pray that everyone is well and stays healthy during the Spring Season.

Enjoy reading about our day!

Jesus Time: This week's Bible story comes from Matthew 26: 26-29 The First Lord’s Supper

While Jesus and His closest follower were eating the Passover dinner, Jesus took some bread and thanked God for it.  He broke the bread apart and said, “Take this bread and eat it.  Do this to remember me.”
Next He took a cup and said, “When you drink this juice of the grape, remember me.”  Jesus knew this was his last meal with His followers because He was about to be killed.  He wanted his followers to always remember Him.

During center time we used our watercolor paints to paint a picture of Jesus and friends at the last supper.  Mrs. Wegner helped us out by re-telling the story of the last supper.

Number:  We continued to learn about the number 8 today.  We looked at the number 8 and how it looks like to circles on top of each other.  We counted our 8 fingers and then we counted 8 Shamrocks.

During our center time we stamped 8 raindrops on our Umbrella project today.  These are displayed in our hallway be sure and check them out!

Shape:  We continue to work on the shape of a rectangle.  We talked about how the door to our classroom is the shape of a rectangle.  We looked around our classroom to see what other kind of rectangles we could find.  I was really proud of how well we did finding rectangles in our classroom.

We practiced the outline of a rectangle by using a green bingo dauber and tracing the outline of a rectangle.

Color: Yellow is the color we will be learning about in the month of March.  We placed yellow objects on our color board today and each student was given the opportunity to help put an object on the board during Morning Meeting.

During our center time we glued our raincoat onto our umbrella project and we used yellow paper when we were gluing our rectangles and number 8.

Music and Movement: We sang Jesus Loves Me, and our ABC’s.  We also did Five Little Ducks, Wheels on the Bus and I am bringing home a Baby Bumble Bee.

Outside Time: we stayed in our classroom today.

Patterning:  We continued to work on a new pattern of Shamrock and Leprechaun Hats today during morning meeting.

During our Center Time we did a pattern of green shamrock and yellow shamrock.  The students were asked what would come next.  This activity will be included in our portfolio that will be coming home in May.

We reviewed the letters M and N. We painted our hands this week to continue our alphabet book that will becoming home in May!

We worked on our pre-reading skills and cutting skills by cutting out different words surrounded around St. Patrick’s Day and gluing them on a piece of a yellow paper.  Each friend cut out 12 different pictures with words on them after they were all cut out I would ask them to find the different pictures and repeat the words back to me.  This activity was to help the students just become familiar and exposed to different words and to look at the letters in the words.

Sensory and Science led us to talk about the weather today and how it was windy, cloudy and cold outside today We also had the opportunity to play with yellow play dough and make all types of fun things with it.  We also talked about if we were a boy or girl as we worked on our umbrella project and we had to glue a boy or girl on our paper and add the features needed such as eyes, nose, mouth and hair.  Body awareness is something we talk about all year long.  We have the Mr. Potato Heads out right now which is a great way for us to work on different body parts right now.

Many of my friends today had a hard time listening and following the rules of the classroom.  We also had a hard time with clean up time and circle time.  We did a lot of talking today about being nice to our friends and sharing as well as when an adult is talking you need to be quite and listen.  When a book is being read we need to sit down with our hands in our laps and listen to the wonderful story that is being read to us.  We also talked a lot about using our walking feet in the classroom and not our running feet.  These are all things that we work on all year and will continue to work on them each week in our classroom.  It would not be a bad idea to mention the above to your child a few times before returning to class next week.  We did have a lot of fun today in our classroom and next week will be full of surprises, as we get ready for the Easter Holiday.

ENJOY OUR PICTURES FROM TODAY!

Free Choice
We had a lot of fun building with these funny blocks.  We made a lot of neat things such as garages for our cars and braclets for our hands.  It was a great way to work on our fine motor and imagination skills. We listened to a variety of Spring Classical music today.

. Carson's garage for his cars.

. Lacing Card and Buttons
Another great fine motor skill we are doing really well with this activity.

. Feeding our imagination with the Little People Town

. Lots of cooks in the kitchen they were making some delicious breakfasts!

Reading
We love to read rather it is having someone read a book to us or us reading a book to our selves.  Books are always available to our friends and we encourage them to take a moment or two through out the day to read them.

. Landry loved telling Mrs. Horn all the different things in this color book.  A great way to work on building vocabulary and words

. Mrs. Wegner reading to a few of our friends.

Imaginative Play
Lots of different things happening in our classroom

. Morning Meeting
we are working really hard at using our listening ears and sitting on our bottoms during Morning Meeting

. We will do a short study on Ducks over the next week or so.  SO this book helped us get into the mode of learning about ducks.

. Transition and Snack TIme

. Circle Time
We sang our ABC's learned more about the letter M and N

. We read this book about a silly dog who went to school and heard to learn the rules to stay at school.

. Outside/Commons Time
We missed out on our time in the commons, because so many of my friend had a hard time following directions and using their listening ears.

. Center Time
We listened to a variety of music during our center time.

Sensory Table
We have not been doing the sensory table for the past few weeks.  Today my friends helped me empty the sensory table with the rice in it so we can have some fun the next few weeks with something different in it.  This is was a great way for us to work on our pouring and scooping skills as well as transferring from the sensory table to the tub the rice will be stored in.

. Umbrella Project Completed

Be sure and check them out in the hallway. We did a great job painting a yellow umbrella, gluing a person on our paper.  We had to decide if we were a boy or a girl and then draw a face on that person.  We then glued on our rain coat that we had painted yellow and finally we stamped 8 raindrops onto our blue paper.  We were able to incorporate lots of different areas into this activity.

. Number 8 and Rectangles
Some of my friends worked on their recognition of the number 8 and the shape of the rectangle.  Our number 8 activity is displayed on the wall outside our classroom.  Be sure and check them out.

. Painting a Yellow Duck
We did a great job painting our ducks yellow that will be displayed in our classroom over the next week.

. Art Easel Time
We had fun drawing and creating on the art easel.  Next week we will not be able to draw on the wipe off side we will have a fun activity to do in place of drawing on the board.

. Ella took excellent care of our Mickeys today!

. Puzzles!
We have had a lot of fun with the farm puzzle the last couple weeks.  It is one of more challenging puzzles in our classroom currently.  Some of our friends are able to complete it on their own others work together to complete it and a few need teachers help.  We are all doing a great job with it!

. Patterning

. Some of us really enjoyed coloring a picture or two

.Reading!

. Cutting/Enhancing our Vocabulary
Today we had to cut out pictures with words on it about St. Patricks Day.  We are all at various stages of cutting with scissors which is complelty typical for this age group and early childhood in general.  After we cut out the pictures we laid them out on the table and I would ask the child to find a picture once they located the picture they would repeat the word to me and then they would glue it on their yellow paper.  This activity is just to create exposure for the children about St. Patricks Day and to teach them some new words.

. Water Color Painting

. Music and Movement
Unfortunately, we did not get to do any music and movement today either because it took my friends a very long time to clean up and follow directions.  We ran out of time for singing dancing and one more story for the day.

. Transition & Lunch Time

. Our day was one of our more challenging days which happens from time to time. We did still have a lot of fun playing with our friends and experiencing new and different activities.  I hope you all have had a wonderful weekend and been able to enjoy the beautiful outdoors at some point!  I look forward to seeing everyone this week at school as we continue to work on learning the number 8, the shape of a rectangle and the color yellow and as we get ready for the Easter Holiday.
