GLITTERING THURSDAY

Thursday, December 11,  2014

It looks like 1989 in our classroom today with the amount of sparkles, sequins, paint and glitter that was being thrown down on our center activities!  We were busy today with learning more about the upcoming holiday.  We learned new words, heard lots of Christmas songs and had a great time playing with our friends.

We are working really hard on using our listening ears and using our walking feet in the classroom.  These two things are really hard to do especially when there are so many fun things happening all around us.

As we are into cold and flu season we are doing a lot of talking about keeping our hands out of mouths, our fingers out of our noses, covering our mouths when we sneeze or cough and using a Kleenex to wipe our nose instead of our sleeve.  We also talk about washing our hands good after we go to the bathroom and before we eat snack and lunch.

Enjoy reading about our day and viewing the pictures taken today of the glittery fun we had!   We had an awesome day and I really missed seeing all my friends early this week, they bring such joy, love and laughter to my heart and are truly blessed to have each and every one of them in my class.

Jesus Time: Today we continued Christmas Story and with the help of visual aides we learned how Mary and Joseph had to make a long journey to Bethlehem and when they arrived their was no room for them at the inn.  But they did find a stable that the innkeeper told them they could rest at and that is where Baby Jesus was born!   A big thank you to Avery’s Grandmother Barbara for loaning us the little people’s manger set to help tell the story of Baby Jesus!

During our center time we started making our own nativity scene with stickers.

Number:  We continued learning about the number 5 today.  During Morning Meeting we looked at what the number 5 looks like and then we practiced counting to 5. We counted 5 fingers, rubbed our bellies 5 times, stomped our feet 5 times and jumped up and down five times.  We then counted 5 red Christmas Stockings.

We also were given a big number 5 and we stamped 5 different Christmas items on the number 5 a practiced saying some new Christmas words, Santa, candy cane, angel, gingerbread, stocking.

Shape:  We are learning about a Triangle during December.  We talked about how a triangle has 3 sides and how a lot of times you can make a Christmas tree out of triangles.

Color:  Green was introduced again during our Morning Meeting and we filled up our green board with different objects that are green.

We had fun during center time painting a green Christmas tree and making it sparkle with gold glitter!

Music and Movement: We also had fun singing our ABC’s, twinkle Little Star.  We practiced singing away in the Manager, which we will be singing on December 13 at the 5:00 church service.  We had fun clapping our hands, doing the Silly Dance Contest, Washing in the Wash Machine, jumping and counting and jumping and turning around!  These kiddos can dance and they have so much fun doing it I love to see all their sweet dance moves!

Outside Time:  WE did go outside today it was great to get out and have some fresh air run and play with our other friends from other classes.  Please remember to dress your child appropriately from warm clothing, proper footwear and outerwear.

Patterning:  We continued working on our pattern of the month of candy cane and Ornaments.  We had fun saying the words and counting to 10!  More new Christmas Vocabulary words!

During center time we did a Christmas pattern of a gingerbread cookie and an angel.  We are really getting good with our pattering skills.

Science and Sensory:  The sensory table was filled with all different types of things we may see at Christmas time.  It will be opened each day for the children, to touch, look and feel what we may see at Christmas.  Ask them what they saw in the table.  More new Christmas Vocabulary words to learn….

During center time we had fun making ornaments and Christmas trees!  We had fun using glitter, glue, ribbon, sequins, buttons, scissors and stickers!  They all look fabulous and thank you to Evan’s mom Mrs. Taylor for donating the large ornaments and Christmas trees.

Cutting Skills: Today we practiced cutting out a piece of paper that had all different types of Christmas objects on them.  After we had cut them out we had to glue them onto a piece of green construction paper.  When we glued on our objects we practiced identifying the picture and saying the word.  We heard lots of Christmas words today… penguin, snowflake, reindeer, teddy bear, ornament, candy cane, present, tree, elf and star.

Enjoy the pictures from our day!

We enjoyed listening to a variety of Christmas Music again today.  We spent a lot of time exploring the classroom and having fun with our friends.  At any given time when you walked in the classroom today all 11 students were engaged in an activity or center.  They had a lot of fun as evidence showed when it was time to clean up!  But they are great cleaners and had the room back in tip top shape in a matter of a few minutes!
